We went to Capri in New Windsor for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The place is nice inside with many empty tables, but it was a week night. Our server was a little "cold" and I don't think she smiled once and we would not see her for very long stretches.. We ordered entrees and the Pasta Fagioli soup for appetizer. It tasted like it came out of a can although some of it was from a can and they put some extra stuff in it. It had very few beans in it and mostly pasta. The worst pasta fagioli we have had in a very long time. The Chicken Saltimboca in the white wine sauce was very good and comparable to what we get at other good Italian restaurants throughout NY and NJ. The marinara sauce however on my linguini was average at best and they put too much on. It was drenched but it had no special flavor or anything to get excited about. It was mostly bland. My wife's Chicken Sorrentino with the burgundy sauce was NOT good. Her plate looked like a soup with a ton of burgundy sauce that was at the top of the chicken. None of us liked this dish. The chicken and (overflowing) burgundy sauce were very plain and did not taste like anything special, or leave a nice after taste in your mouth. The eggplant was also a little too thick and just the whole presentation was bad. We have the Chicken Sorrentino a lot at other good restaurants in Orange county and it is one of our favorite meals when we go out. The Capri version of Sorrentino was probably the worst we have had. Bella Luna restaurant for ex. makes a much better Sorrentino and they offer a nice thin layer of prosciutto with it as do other places. We will probably be going back to Capri to try the more traditional Francese and Marsalla entrees because the Chicken Saltimboca was good, which is promising... and because we are local and this place is convenient. I almost forgot to mention that our server was talking to another table for 20min. after she dropped off the check and we wanted to pay and leave, so I got up and went to the bar to pay the bill. So with 1 bad entrée, a pasta fagioli with tomato soup out of a can, avg/below avg. red/marinara sauce, and an absentee server when the place was empty, I want to give it 2 stars at most, but the Saltimbocca was good and we are willing to give this place a chance on a Fri. or Sat. to try other dishes that people gave good reviews on. So 2.5 stars is a fair rating from us. But so far with this 1 experience Capri is at least 2 stars below Bella Luna and a couple of other places we frequently dine out at. Will review again after we give Capri...
Read moreLisa Bianco · July 5, 2018 I have been going to Capri for over 20 years and I will never be giving them my business again. After many overlooked problems encountered over the years, hair in food, a piece of metal from a can found one time, not having salad, bread, certain pastas, takeout being ready over an hour past the time originally said, I always went back because the owner always made it right. Today, my family and I were turmed away from dining there. We walked into the restaurant, where possibly 8 tables were filled, only to be greeted by the bus person saying, "I'm sorry, I'm going to have ask you to leave. We are too busy to serve you". I was blown away. We were not offered a wait time, told we are very busy and short staffed it could be awhile, we were simply refused to be served. We asked to speak to the owner and we're told that he was too busy.
The tension in the restaurant was evident from all the staff. Another waitress told us we could sit down but she didn't know when anybody could get to us. The bus person smirked at our complaint of how she spoke to us, to and when I pointed it out, she said, "What? I'm just trying to say I'm sorry!". The owner eventually came out and simply didn't care. I asked how they decide to turn people away when the restaurant was almost full. Another woman, who appeared to be part of management said, "We don't turn anyone away". I told her what the bus person said to us and she said, "Well she's young and new". Not my problem. I told the woman she should put a sign on the door to say they were no longer accepting customers today and lock the door. She said she can't lock the door with customers inside and snickered.
I will never, no matter what, provide Capri with myself or my family as their customers again. All based upon how we were treated and spoken to. The quality of food doesn't matter if you're turning away customers, specifically customers of over 20 years. Good luck, you...
Read moreI decided to give this place a try. Upon entering we waited by the door near the hostess booth. A gentleman who I would assume was the owner with white hair wearing an apron was having a quick conversation with guests who I'm confident he knew who they were based on what I overheard. We were not greeted by him and after a few minutes he walked away after his visit to the guest at the table leaving us standing at the door waiting to be seated. We observed a young man (bus boy) with curly hair placing silverware on the tables while waiting at the doorway to be seated and he dropped a fork on the floor and placed it on the table... YIKES!! We were finally seated after waiting a few minutes. We placed our orders and asked for extra garlic on one of the orders and was told by the waiter that the chef could not accommodate such a request. If we are paying for extra garlic or whatever else we'd want to order they should have simply granted the request. Guest our what keep the doors opened and to say they couldn't accommodate a guest willing to pay extra is bizarre. I'm sure you guys have gotten other customers who would request adding more sauce or hold the onions or anything else. We are the key to the business staying open. Please try to meet the requests of the customers even if it means adding more or holding something off of the dish. Please train workers on health and safety by not placing silverware on the table after it has fallen on the floor. Please try to simply say good evening folks someone will be right with you or simply get us a table and then walk away or try and have the host pay a little more attention to the customers waiting to be seated.. Maybe a door chime to give a gentle alert. I'm confident you guys can do better. I will gladly give you guys a try by the end of July. P.S Extra requests means extra đ$$$$ đmeans the business staying open đmeans a happy customer đmeans a happy business owner means a...
