While it’s hard to mess up a burrito, it’s even harder to make one that stands out. Talavera is a clean, unassuming Mexican food restaurant in the Town of Windsor, NY. It’s situated inconspicuously in a cute mall and doesn’t look like anything special from the outside. Once inside, you immediately feel the laid back, friendly vibe, and there is an attention to detail, if simplistic in design, that just feels warm and friendly. The menu was clean, easy to read, and offers many delicious looking items. I had the burro with house made carnitas, guacamole & queso fresco. Boy was this a good choice!! Delivered sliced in half and presented on a lovely, clean, stylish white plate, I was sure this was going to be delicious just by how it arrived. From the first bite I was delighted!! The tortilla had been pressed on the grill just before serving, giving it a nice crisp, ‘Carmelized’ finish (the grill press gave it a hint of sweetness that went really well with the ingredients, and made eating it easier.) I had a half carafe of plain water with lime slice, and I can tell you that this was more than enough for lunch. If you have a big appetite, this will be perfect. In the background was Mexican mariachi trumpet music, moderate in volume. The waitress checked on me several times, although, I had everything that I needed right there. I was completely full, but I had the waitress list their homemade deserts, as I will most definitely be back for...
Read moreI was excited about this place because of the reviews. But we were very disappointed. Not sure what was going on the day we went in, but we waited almost an hour and a half for our food. We weren’t offered any kind of complimentary drink or tortilla chips during the wait, and whoever was working didn’t even tell us it would be that long. I wish she would’ve just let us know, for expectation management at lease. Don’t get me wrong, the food was absolutely phenomenal! The guacamole was sort of whipped, like whipped cream! I’ve never had guacamole like that, and it was delicious! Everything we got was amazing (except the tortilla chips were a little over cooked, and could’ve used some salt). But the service was just really awful. It was also extremely hot inside as there was no AC, only table top fans. And it looked as though they used the store as their own home with bills and baby stuff all over the place. The decorations also look like they sort of strung it all together very cheaply. I’d probably get food from here again, but I’m going to call ahead of time and ask how long the wait is, then get it to go. It’s really a shame, because I see that this place has so much potential, but they/it really...
Read moreExcellent food. Although I'm not familiar with the city, we stopped there for lunch during a road trip from Buffalo to Washington, DC. We were hungry and tired so we just needed a good service with a good food, but unfortunately, the owner's demeanor was less than welcoming from the very beginning. When we asked for something, her responses lacked the expected politeness.(very bossy),her attitude was far from friendly.
Towards the end, we decided to order more food for takeout, along with an extra serving of red sauce. At this point, her reaction seemed quite unpleasant. We were a bit perplexed as we always tip generously, typically around 20% to 25%, as a gesture of our appreciation for good service. However, on this occasion, the service left much to be desired. We felt compelled to express our dissatisfaction in this manner, as it is a way to provide feedback and encourage improvement in their business.
It's worth noting that despite the service, the food itself was...
