I’m very upset with the experience I had at this spca, let me start by saying I took multiple trips on my days off sun-mon for a month. The first time I went to check the place out and see some cats I walked into the reception area. There were four women standing there and none of them ignoledged me for over 15 mins while having a non work related talk with another women. I found this extremely rude and unprofessional, then they told me the woman who ran the cat room was not there. So I said I’d be back next week. The following week I returned twice in one day, upon my second time returning I finally was able to speak with the women in charge of the cat room. She informed me I needed to fill out an application, which was fine. But she wouldn’t even let me into the room to even look at cats. So I fill out the application, and I return the next day (Monday). I’m finally after three weeks allowed into the cat room to look at cats, the women in charge suggestd a cat I might be interested in. He was a beautiful cat, but I just didn’t feel him and I bonded. She proceeded to try and force this cat on me, (I think he was a lot of trouble in the cat room) and she was just trying to unload him. I then took a look in another room and was immediately greeted by a handsome younger black cat, I knew instantly I had a bond with this cat. I picked him up and held him in my arms and he immediately kissed me on the nose, I put him down to give some of the other cats in the room attention and he would not leave me alone. Crawling up my legs and onto my chest from a cat tower, I was told my application had to be approved and I told the women In charge of the cat room to let me know when I was approved and I’d come back. Well Saturday I received a call from this women and she told me an elderly couple were also interested in the same cat I was, I knew right then and there this women had made her decision. I went in today to try and plead my case for the cat but unfortunately to no avail and I was informed they would be rehoming him to that couple with another cat, and if I’m not mistaken they already had cats at home. I just feel like the whole transaction I had with this spca was so unprofessional and rude. I’m extremely upset because for an entire week and a half all I’ve been thinking about was bringing this handsome boy home. Thank you for judge me based on my appearance and wasteing my time. As an animal lover I’m sort of appalled also by the conditions of this establishment, there was lots of garbage and old boxes stacked Willy nilly outside of the place and I’ve seen much cleaner and better smelling cat rooms. I hope this place gets their act together and maybe hires some more hard working and...
Read moreWe originally planned to go to ACC NYC on the way home from our overnight trip but I had a Dr. appt in Newburgh and asked my husband if we could just go there and look, we had nothing to lose. He agreed so we went. We walked in and were greeted right away and asked what brought us in. We told them we came to adopt a dog. We were told to come around and look at pictures of available dogs. I immediately seen the most beautiful gray pitbull mix and pointed at saying to my husband "look!". The lady hadn't seen whom I pointed at but she asked if we had an idea of what we were looking for. I told her a pitbull preferably young around 2 or so then explained how our fur baby Sinatra died about a month prior. She said "Oh!, you should meet Earl" then she came and pointed to the picture I was pointing at. I wanted to meet him so we were then taken outside next door and Earl was brought out to meet us. We were told of his history and learned he was 6 years old. A little older than we originally wanted however after meeting this calm gentle boy I was smitten... twitterpated even. We filled out the adoption application and left very hopeful. After calling our references and veterinarian the called us and told us we were approved. It didn't take long at all but those couple days seemed like eternity. We got so lucky. Earl is a perfect dog, perfect fit for our small family. He had brought us so much happiness already and we love spoiling him.
When we picked him up we were told that if we we ever have to find a place for him that they would gladly accept him back and they were a no kill shelter ❤️. It will never happen but it shows...
