Hubby and I stopped in this diner while on our way to Niagara Falls. We were hoping for a delish “diner “ breakfast, fill our bellies and be on our way. Upon entering we clearly were an oddity— two black folks in a sea of white faces. Despite my trepidation and desire to pivot out of there, my optimistic hubby boldly asked for a table for two— and hopefully an outlet to charge his laptop. We were seated at a booth that needed cleaning. The server came and nervously and hurriedly wiped off the table, sending utensils and food remnants crashing to the floor. She then offered up the table leaving a knife and a few items beneath the table. We sat for about 15 minutes and no one came over. Finally, Hubby asked for coffee. A hostess came over, with a heavy Eastern European accent, she greeted us and poured coffee. She seemed kind, and added that someone would come “to us”. We waited another 10 minutes. Finally a server came over by the name of Angela. She seemed cool, with flashy handmade boho styled earrings and a pulled back messy ponytail. She offered some small talk an took our orders. We asked for water and she brought water. We waited again, maybe 25 minutes. I was ready to leave. Finally, the food was served. When the food was served, we asked for takeout boxes and the check. The server left the check. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered a crispy chicken salad and Hubby ordered some breakfast. While he thought his was “decent “, I picked at mine. Angela never returned with the boxes, nor to collect the check. Hubby walked to the hostess to leave the check and a tip that was not deserved. We will never go back to Sunrise Diner in Dansville. The best part of the experience was leaving and learning where not to go when...
Read moreFood is seriously sub-par. It’s NOT good. My first visit was several months ago, when I ordered some sort of chicken alfredo special. It was awful. I left most of the plate on the table, and ate part of a stale, half squished dinner roll, instead. My boyfriend’s meal was no better. After the tip, the bill exceeded $50, for a meal neither of us finished. (Their prices would be reasonable for the portion sizes, if the food was edible). Tonight, we attempted to go to Big Sky for fish fries, but due to current seating limitations, they were at capacity for close to an hour, so we decided to try Sunrise again. I really hoped our last visit was a fluke, and that maybe they just had an inexperienced cook on that day. Evidently I was wrong. What we received was severely dried out, flavorless fish. (Most disturbingly, the croutons in my side salad tasted much more like fish than my dinner did...). Again, I spent way too much money on a meal that went uneaten. The waitresses are wonderful, but the food is awful, and highly over priced, given the quality. This isn’t a judgment by high end standards - merely a comparison to literally every other diner I’ve ever visited. Don’t waste your money. Spend less, and actually enjoy your meal at ANY of Dansville’s other restaurant options. Take the Sunrise off your list. Trust me on this. I’ve had MUCH better food from hospitals, and public school cafeterias. That...
Read moreDisappointing. I've lived in the area for years and decided to try breakfast at this place. Will NOT be going back.
Very dated and worn out inside. Old desert rack near checkout. Just plain old.
The waitress named.....????.....she never told us her name, never said hello. Just asked for a drink order. Never smiled once. Very cold and uncaring.
The food portions were reasonable, but the quality was low. "Home fries" were undercooked potato chunks. Pancakes were super thick and doughy. French toast had no flavor at all. Omelet was okay, but had cheap american cheese slices on top instead of real cheese inside.
Save your money and go to the breakfast buffet at the truckstop in town. Much better food and reasonably priced. Also check out Cartwright's Maple Tree Inn when they are open. Awesome food and service!
UPDATE: Made the mistake of giving them a second chance. It was just as terrible the second time. Waitress never said hello, her name or anything other than what drinks do you want. The manager? Owner? guy looked like he wanted to punch every customer coming in the door.
Food was just as bad as last time. We really wanted to go to Java Jungle, but they were packed with a line and so we came here. Bad idea. Just...
