i do not recommend giving your money to an establishment who does not value the feelings of their employees. i worked here for about three weeks and quit. without naming names, the manager was harsh, demeaning, and physical. she had no patience whatsoever and embarrassed me in front of customers. i went home crying after every shift i worked. you can do one little thing incorrectly and you get yelled at. i understand that you canât totally screw up, whether it be with the amount of ice cream you give in a serving. the register (which iâve never had experience with and was not taught how to use properly). this was my first ever work experience and it was totally ruined. my view that i now have of the carvel business is ruined. i was kept extremely late after my shift. example: shift ends at 7:00 there until 7:30. i also had to close. we ONLY started closing at 10:00 which is when the shift ended. i was kept for an extra hour and thirty minutes. i was tired, and exhausted but was made to do the majority of the work while the other employee sat there and just wiped counter tops. i donât mind getting my hands dirty but, there comes a point where not being told the extent of the job during the interview and having it sprung on me is extremely unacceptable. i would also like to speak about the tip distribution throughout the staff working their shifts. i would see countless amount of dollar bills, or fives go into the tip jar or i would put the cash in the tip jar myself for the customer. the amount of cash i came home with after my shifts was definitely not âequalâ to what was in that jar. the manager claims to distribute the tips evenly but, it didnât add up when i went to pick my tip up. they were not evenly distributed. one pile would have more money than the other. iâm not so sure if the manager gets tips but according to the new york state department of labor and the fair labor standards act managers and owners are prohibited from taking tips, unless handed to them. the money distribution was odd and fraud could have possibly occurred. maybe try ralphâs or mr softie but NEVER carvel on hillside avenue in williston park, new...
Read moreTL;DR: Manager asked me borderline illegal questions when I wanted to apply
I've been going to this Carvel since I was a kid with my family. Still live pretty local. Management seems pretty nice, everyone knows them. Occasionally hear bad things from former applicants/employees, but generally ignore it. On a whim, ask for application because hey, everyone needs a job right? The nice person says sure, she'll get her manager. Said man walks out and proceeds to ask me -basic employment questions -how old I am (illegal but irrelevant considering I'm under 40) -why I left one of my former jobs so early (keep in mind I was still not given an application at this point, which is what i came in for) When explaining that I had to leave due to health problems he prompted me with "what kind?" which is VERY ILLEGAL and violates the ADA. I said "Are you legally allowed to ask me that? I'm uncomfortable disclosing the situation" and he proceeded to "explain" that he was interested if it would "inhibit my work" (if he wanted to ask if i could perform duties with or without accommodations, that would've been fine). I reiterated that no, I would not disclose as that made me very uncomfortable. He then told me he was "sorry he would no longer consider me for the position". ÂŻ(ă)/ÂŻ guess it's cool to violate ADA now? Suffice to say, please go to literally /any...
Read moreUnfortunately wonât be coming back here again. I tried to give them benefit of the doubt the first time but this is second time itâs happened. They take your cake order, charge your card, but donât make your cake until after you come into the store at your scheduled pick up time. At that time they say âalmost done please waitâ then continue to print the images on the cake. The first time they pulled it, they ran out of ink and told me the day of they cannot do the cake anymore. Even though my order was placed a week in advance. The second time, same thing, I can literally watch the owner/manager printing the image after I walk in to pick up the cake (2 hours after scheduled pick up time). And Iâm waiting with a baby and wife waiting in the car for 20+ minutes to pick up my cake. I wonât be...
