As I write this my hands are still trembling from the emotional upset of being assaulted by the owner for returning a cake I recently purchased from Polito Bakery. I was physically attacked and spit at by the owner as I was run out of the store fleeing for my safety as he cursed me out threatening to kill me!I am completely serious! I even went to the 3rd Precinct Police Station just a couple of blocks away to report the incident. The owner is definitely unhinged and according to the police committed a crime by spitting at me and threatening violence. And to think all because I criticized a carrot cake for being too dry! Needless to say any store owner that would behave so egregiously, even criminally, deserves to be avoided at all costs. The joke is I didn't even ask for a full refund, I just asked for some exchange-- the cake was inedible and cost $28, nobody at the party liked it and most of what was cut was tossed into the trash. I asked for $20 worth of something else despite my inconvenience and the impact on the party, figuring he could keep $8 to cover his ingredients but this guy does not know how to treat customers! Clearly, I will NEVER patronize his bakery again and suggest that you don't either! Even if you're not met with violence the baking is...
Read moreThis was a great bakery a long time ago. Now it is always empty and the reason is obvious. The help is rude and the quality has gone way downhill. It seems the baked goods sit there until they sell. I don't know if the ownership has changed or they just don't care, but a business can't survive on it's past reputation alone. We gave it our last try yesterday because Marzullo was closed and were once again greeted with rude help who don't want to be there and stale old baked goods. No more, we're done. Sad
Responding to owners response- I agree everyone has their bad days, but your staff seems to have them all the time. Instead of making excuses, you should view it as constructive criticism. I worked with people for over 30 years and "I am having a bad day is not an excuse for repeated rudeness". I do not lie, your cookies were stale. I also did not go in after 3pm. This was our go to bakery for probably 30-40 years. Once again, you can learn from constructive criticism that seems to be repeated throughout these reviews or continue to call people liars. Truly doesn't matter to me either way. It really is sad to see such a neighborhood staple go in the direction you...
Read moreThe owner is a complete loose cannon with a couple screws loose. I entered the bakery as a vendor this afternoon, after a few minutes of waiting for customers to be attended to I approached the counter and greeted him normally and announced my business at the bakery. He somehow interpreted that as me embarrassing him in front of his customers. As I continued to ask him questions that I have to ask prior to doing any service his rage became apparent. Demanding me to do service (In an aggravated tone) and treating me terribly while doing so. I even apologized and assured him that I did not intend to embarrass him in front of customers. To no avail he continued to be rude and demeaning. I then told him I will not be doing the service today because I don't appreciate the way I'm being treated, this is when he burst out into a full blown temper tantrum. Ripping my paper out of my hand then Screaming and cursing at me until I left the bakery. As I was walking out he also had a final remark which I will not quote what he said. If I could give this place 0 stars I totally would. And to the owner I’ll...
