People say you never hear from your customers until they complain. For this review I will share that we've always enjoyed coming to Reilly's. That is, until last night. The place is generally charming and offers comfort food options and usually hits high marks for those, bartenders are nice and the owner bandies about with his signature fedora. Last year during the holidays it really felt warm and inviting. Their signature cocktails were delicious and the Guiness was nice and cold. Over the last year we made many visits, we even went here for Father's Day! So when our kids came home from college, we decided that it would be a great spot to go to, especially since we hadn't had a meal together as a family in many months, going back to Father's Day. Understanding that the night before Thanksgiving is generally a peculiar night for restaurants, I was ok with being called several times by the hostesses in the days leading up to the reservation. Their message was consistent about the "kitchen is closing at 9pm." While our reservation was for 8pm, we arrived early and were seated just before 8pm. After about 10 minutes of appearing bewildered with undirected energy, the waitress approached and bought some time by dropping off a 6-pack of waters. Another 10 minutes to approach and receive a drink order, at that point we understood the staff would not at all interested in our table as soon as the clock struck 9. In fact, every moment up until 9, we were reminded by our waitress that we were on the clock. As she took our drink order and immediately asked us for our dinner order, it became clear that a message of "We'd prefer not to fell rushed" would need to be delivered. She was kind in her response, suggesting that she would take our dinner order when she got back with the drinks. Not problem at all with that, all was well. Order of Irish Nachos arrived a few minutes later, all was well. As our food arrived, we were immediately approached by the waitress with the dessert menu. Lord, talk about the "Bum's rush"! She made another suggestion about the kitchen closing at 9 and after that being the theme of the evening, everyone at our table became vary aware that no one was gonna give us a thought after 9. It wasn't just the kitchen. The staff was a mixture of some people moving fast to take care of their customers and an equal amount of staff begging for time to pass so they could get the hell out of there. What once felt like a warm and welcoming place turned into a place where you could notice that the people that work there don't really give a damn if you're there to enjoy yourselves. A table behind became slowly covered in items off the menu. As our dinner arrived, and the dessert menu was shoved down our throat, we were advised that it was more than likely that the dessert, if it was ordered, would probably come out as we were still eating our dinners, because, you guessed it, the KITCHEN WAS CLOSING!! And, as we took our first bites of dinner, the dessert arrived. As the ice cream slide off the hot brownie, we asked them to take it back to the kitchen, which they obliged. Waitress returned to let us know that she was "dropping the check" because her shift was ending. She could sense that we weren't pleased after sharing with her that we didn't want to feel rushed. She responded over to the owner and shared our frustration, frankly it was not his fault. She came over and offered us a round of drinks. I refused, partly because I had already had two Old Fashioned's, partly because I felt that a better show of concern would have been for him to come over and just talk share his regret for us having a less than enjoyable time. But, as expected, he and the staff sat at the table behind us and started scarfing down food. The waitress stood a few feet over at the POS stand and was doing the same. We had done our part, respected the fact that the kitchen was closing. We followed their rules and didn't complain. But after this evening, we...
Read moreOutstanding new restaurant in Piermont, NY! I'd give it six stars if I could! From the beautiful front and entrance, with the hopeful "Established in 2022" sign, to the colors, decorations, welcome area, and seating, they have done a great job of creating a clean, welcome, and friendly environment. The staff were smiling and pleasant from the moment of our entrance. Meghan, our server, was a joy! Friendly, attentive and helpful -- solving a "which one" question honestly and knowledgably. Excellent service! And the food!!! The three of us ordered the "bangers and mash", "fish and chips", "Nanny's mini crab cakes" and a wedge salad (which I don't see on the menu). Summary: everyone LOVED everything (yes, we shared!). Details: The bangers and mash are perfect! Beautifully presented, on a undulating pile of creamy mashed potatoes, were four Irish sausages, toped with ribbons of caramelized onions and rich brown gravy, garnished with some kind of sprouts. The result is a new favorite place to get this favorite dish (and I had quite a few!) of mine. The fish and chips is excellent! Fish was moist and flaky, batter crisp and tasty, chips among the best I've had (with skins), and tartar sauce great! The mushy peas included nearly whole peas (not my experience of normal), but matched well my memory of this unique dish as found in Brittan. The mini crab cakes were awesome! The (about) eight one-inch rounds were served with tartar sauce and a wedge of lemon. Even the wedge salad was beautifully presented (and the only thing I did not personally try). In the end, we all ate everything, and nearly scraped our plates! I finished with a very good cappuccino! This is a great place for dates, family, friends, or even a business lunch. Really highly recommend! I'll be driving the hour to take my wife here soon! Update Aug 1, 2025: Finally returned after three years and a couple of days. Still excellent! Highly recommended! The Irish Lamb Stew is simply amazing! Much more crowded in a Friday evening, but very worth any wait you face. Still six stars across the board. Tara and Tommy serve with the perfect combination of attentive, friendly service while not being invasive; and the atmosphere has only improved. (No picture of the stew, it was so beautiful, I had to tuck in...
Read moreThe most disgusting and ridiculous experience at a restaurant I've ever had. Last night, for my birthday, we had a group of 8 at a table upstairs. Originally, we were told to come earlier than 8pm, because their kitchen closes at 8:30. We made accommodations to come at 7. The service was sub-par, food was just about passable, and the server was not on top of anything. The upstairs was starting to clear out, and we did not think anything of it, until an older, short woman came up to us and said, "The upstairs is closed, you need to come downstairs NOW!" She proceeded to stand over us until we left our table, handed us our bill and said, "Don't forget to pay." Her attempts to intimidate me were abhorrent. I paid the bill with no problem and left an adequate tip for the service provided. As soon as we were offered to go downstairs, I hadn't even sat at the table before the woman came right up to me with an overbearing attitude, got DIRECTLY in my face and asked me "what my problem was" with the service due to the tip. It was absolutely APPALLING behavior to witness from a manager of an establishment. The rest of the night, she shot me dirty looks the entire night, and not one server came to us to provide service or anything else. This womans unprofessional and distasteful behavior put a damper on everyone's evening, including witnesses that happened...
