Update after restaurant’s response where they took no accountability for what their staff actually did: As I said, there was no issue on our end with the time it would take. You can say no one intended to single her out, but when the young woman speaking with her is loudly berating her to the point several other customers are staring, I’m not really sure what you think your employee was doing if not singling her out. I frankly don’t believe that you will be “investigating” because you just wrote a long reply totally absolving your employee of any responsibility while condescendingly explaining “first come first served” when I’ve already made it clear that that was never the problem. Again, obviously we’re not going back. This was not an “inconvenience”, it was making a person feel like garbage. Oh by the way, your employee did not tell her it would be another 15 minutes and my mother did not just immediately ask for a refund. Your employee told her it would be at least another hour (when it had already been 30 minutes since the order was placed) while laughing at her and at that point my mom asked if it would be easier for a refund to take place. Just to make sure you have the correct details!
We were excited to try this place as the reviews were great and we’re always looking for more good spots for sushi! Sadly, some employees tonight were very nasty to my mother when she came in to pick up our order. We timed it accordingly with what the online order page told us, but when she went in she was told that it would in fact be much longer, which was a bit confusing but was not a problem at all.
However for reasons beyond my comprehension the woman she spoke with proceeded to make a scene by bringing a chef up to the front to continue chastising her while pointing at other customers and telling my mother how long those people had been waiting, insinuating that my mother was entitled for walking into the building at what she thought was the right time. My mother did not complain nor was she rude or distressed, it seems that this staff member is either in a bad mood tonight or is just an angry person who feels the need to try to “make an example” of a disabled woman in her 60s by trying to humiliate her over a benign, honest misunderstanding that was ultimately caused by the ordering service the restaurant itself uses & links on their own website. If this sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is, but it did just happen and I was (and am!) really upset to hear how my mom was treated.
For the future the correct way to handle such a miscommunication in customer service is to simply let the person know about the real amount of time it will take, as the customer is rarely just trying to be malicious. Surprisingly enough it is never necessary to physically have other staff come up front to make fun of a customer for walking inside and paying for their food; this is actually how to make sure people never want to come back. Read moreThis is maybe the second time that I ate at Minami, with a third time being take out. All experiences were exceptional! The ambiance of the restaurant is very modern and chic, the presentation of the food is beautiful and artistic... but the most important thing is that the sushi and sashimi is top-of-the-line!! Almost melting like butter in your mouth. Very fresh tasting, tender and oh so delicious!!! I judge Japanese restaurants first on their Miso soup, and theirs was one of the best I've ever had! We also had Edamami, and my friend had the avocado salad. We shared two classic sushi rolls, The Dragon and The Rainbow. And then we tried one of the fancier Fabulous rolls which I believe was called The Tropical Roll which had some banana flavoring in it. It was very different and very delicious with only a subtle banana flavoring which did not over dominate the dish. My friend tried plum wine and I had one of the cold sakis which I like to have served poured over a glass with sliced cucumber sticks in it (a special request). Refreshing! When I have a Japanese dining experience like this.. it's simply Bliss...
