My recent visit to the Massapequa Diner unfolded as an unfortunate tale of two meals, each marked by its own set of disappointments that collectively left me with no desire to return to this establishment.
Firstly, for lunch, my partner and I decided to give the diner a chance, opting for takeout. I ordered a grilled vegetable wrap with grilled chicken, while my partner selected an omelette with home fries. Our order was collected on time, but what we encountered was far from appetizing. The home fries and normal fries arrived exceedingly soggy and unappetizing, while my vegetable wrap was disappointingly wet and saturated with excess oil. The greens within the wrap appeared far from fresh, and the overall taste left much to be desired.
The evening, however, escalated the dissatisfaction to an entirely new level. Returning for dinner with two additional guests around 9pm, we had the misfortune of encountering the same waiter from a prior visit, whose service had previously left me without a meal. I had to watch everyone else finish their meals while I waited for mine due to him messing up my order two times. Hoping for a better experience, we placed our orders. This time, one aspect of the order was incorrect, with regular fries instead of the requested sweet potato fries. While this was an annoyance, we chose to overlook it. I rather a small mistake like that over someone not getting their entire meal.
The true low point of the evening occurred when both my friend and I discovered that our forks were covered in a thick coating of food residue on the bottom part of the handles, and the fork's base was unclean as well. Politely bringing this unsanitary matter to our waiter's attention, his response was far from satisfactory. He simply wiped the forks with napkins taken from an empty table and returned them to us, displaying an evident lack of concern for hygiene. His demeanor suggested annoyance at our request for new silverware. Throughout our stay, he only checked on us once, and the waiter who refilled our drinks appeared visibly irritated as well.
Now, to address the food itself—the heart of any dining experience. I ordered cheeseburger sliders, a choice that quickly revealed itself as regrettable. The bread was hard and aged to the point of being inedible, while the burger patty itself was dry and devoid of flavor. Regrettably, the rest of our meal was no exception. The French toast bites suffered from stale bread, the Buffalo chicken grilled cheese was dry and unappetizing, and the nachos were, at best, passable.
Beyond the culinary woes, the overall ambiance was marked by discomfort and irritation. I found myself questioning the sanitation standards of the kitchen, given the unclean silverware incident that was inadequately addressed.
In light of these regrettable experiences, I cannot recommend a return visit to the Massapequa Diner. There are certainly other dining establishments in the area that offer higher quality fare, attentive staff, and a more pleasant dining environment at a similar price point. My hope is that this review serves as constructive feedback for the improvement of the diner's offerings and...
Read moreI have been a customer of this location for 23 years. I placed a take-out order. One of the items was a Reuben sandwich. When I got home and opened up the package, what I got was far from a Reuben sandwich. The sandwich was mostly all mushrooms, hardly any corned beef (which was mostly all fat) and no sauerkraut. I’ve never heard of a reuben sandwich having mushrooms on it. Even the menu doesn’t state that it contained mushrooms. However, the menu did indicate that it came with side order of a pickle & coleslaw which I also did not receive. I called the diner to discuss my issue. Pat, who answered the phone, first accused me of having an attitude, when all I did was simply explain to him what I ordered & what I received. He then replied “well, what do you want me to do?”. I then asked for the manager and he stated that he was the manager. Never in my life have I heard a person in a managerial position speak this way to a customer. I explained to him that if in fact he was the manager, he should have first apologized for the issue, then offered a replacement sandwich. The fact that I needed to educate him on how to properly resolve this situation was infuriating in itself. He then replied with an attitude “well if you want another sandwich, I’ll give you a new sandwich”. At that point, I decided to just share my story with any potential customers that may possibly read this review. To first charge top dollar for subpar food & then to speak to a customer with no respect or concern for the complaint is unacceptable. The owners of this diner should really reconsider who they have managing their restaurant. A simple problem with a simple resolution is all that this should have been, but instead they’ve lost a long standing customer due to the lack of professionalism exhibited by Pat,...
Read moreWent one night late with my young son while heading home from the airport. Its very convenient aside from serving great food 24/7 365 days a year. After enjoying an awesome meal following an absolutely horrible experience at the airport for the second night in a row I reached for my wallet to find out I had been pick-pocketed. I felt like such a tourist in my own back yard. This was as bad as it gets. Now not much could relieve the stress and anxiety I was having thinking about how my son and I were going to be able to board a plane the next day with no ID, no money, no plane tickets, to join my other son along with my girlfriend who'd just departed at that exact moment across the country. Well not that my situation could be remedied at that very moment all at once but it definitely was as good a start as I could have imagined. The owner came right over and said don't worry about it. He said to me that it was on the house. I thanked him several times and promised to make it right as soon as I could and he insisted that didnt owe them anything and not to mention it again. He said just have a great night and please not to worry about it. He had no idea of the airport or the pickpocketing. He only knew that I couldn't find my wallet. I made sure that the day after I returned from my vacation that I treated my family and some friends to a return dinner and made sure that I had paid what I owed but also that I tipped out the waiter from the previous dinner. MASSAPEQUA DINER OWNED AND RUN BY GENUINE AWESOME PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO COOK FROM THE HEART AND SERVE NOT ONLY A HEALTHY DELICIOUS MEAL BUT THEY DO...
