Mongo's Coffee Roastery & Lounge — Restaurant in Town of Oyster Bay

What comes to mind when asked about the #1 coffee house on Long Island? Well, I'll tell you. That would be Mongo's Coffee Roastery & Lounge, located in the heart of Syosset.

My co-workers and I tend to order the 64 oz. cold brew growler from Mongo's. It's an amazing deal too because you can bring back the 64 oz growler and get it refilled for a very reasonable price. The service from the staff members behind the counter is excellent, and they are always very welcoming.

There is also a ton of seating options within this coffee shop. I've seen people come here to study, to have business meetings, and even just to casually sit down and just enjoy a great cup of coffee/cold brew. The ambience within this store is amazing, and it really gives off the impression of an authentic coffee house environment.

Also, the staff members behind the counter are always very efficient, and they always have the orders ready in a very timely manner. In addition, there is excellent parking for Mongo's, which is another huge advantage to this place. If you are looking to experience an authentic coffee shop on Long Island, then this...

Oh boy. This is going to be a long one. I stopped here while passing through the area, hoping for a friendly small business experience. I could not have been more wrong. Firstly, the coffee was questionable. It had a weird aftertaste, almost chalky in nature but not quite. It seemed watered-down. I’m not sure if that’s how it regularly is or if it was just my experience, but I would definitely take my business to somewhere consistent like Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks instead. The real issue, however, was the customer service. They seem to deny most of the issues that arise. Just as they seemingly deflect their negative reviews by discrediting the reviewers with what ?appears? to be lies, they deflect any and all criticism quite rudely in person. As soon as I walked in I felt the tension in the atmosphere. I understand it’s hard work, but when your business model consists of being sassy on google review and making subpar coffee, it seems like a you problem. Just don’t waste your time...

Can’t wait to come back here! I’m upset I didn’t know about it sooner or I would have come here ALL the time as a student! The ambiance here is awesome- it’s chill, kinda looks like a brewery (cuz it is but for coffee!), lots of grey tones, has tables and chairs for work stations but also couches for more relaxed hanging out vibes also. Looking around, I saw students studying independently, studying in groups together, I saw an interview going on, a first date, people working their jobs, people hanging solo, or friendship dates like the one I was on. Staff was nice and my friend got a hot oat milk latte in a beautiful orange mug and I got an iced vanilla oat milk latte! We also got a scone and the avocado toast which was delicious! Can’t wait to come back with my boyfriend! I heard they have live music too so can’t wait for that!!
