Spring rolls were crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Similar to the defunct Pho 99's in South Plainfield but not as fragrant. The nuoc cham sauce here is sweeter and without shredded pickled radish or carrots. Size is like Filipino lumpia. Very good. Would have been better if the lettuce leaves given were bigger.
Summer rolls had large pieces of shrimp, lettuce, pork, and rice vermicelli noodles. Pretty generous. Pork tastes clean. The accommodating sauce is less hoison-y and a little more on the peanut side. Enjoyed that as well. Different textures, quite refreshing.
Their beef satay banh mi has a different personality from others tried. Great toasted, flaky and crispy french baguette, generous shredded cheesesteak-like beef. Surprisingly tastes healthier and cleaner than expected, at least when compared to Baguette Delite's in Edison, NJ as their's has butter slathered into the bread and considering there isn't much veggies to speak of. It would be even better if there were more pickled radish and even some carrots or sliced jalapeno. Not bad at all though.
Their pho is very light, smooth, clean and aromatic. Noodles do not stick together and are al dente at arrival. What's great: 3 kinds of meat in your pho! Brisket, round eye, and quartered meatballs. Brisket's soft, easy to break apart, and taste clean with none of that aged meat flavor. Round eye's a lil overcooked and meatballs are fine. Just wish there was more considering I ordered an XL. Sister noted the broth this time around wasn't as strong or flavorful as usual. We have a theory it may be because the broth batch made for the day hasn't stewed all day and she usually comes during dinner time so that's something to note!
Also a note on getting your pho XL. The $13 can be worth it if half is taken home for dinner. You'd have to not mind your noodles getting soft and your broth's consistency changing as it noticeably takes on a bit of the noodle's flavor. I personally don't mind my noodles getting super soft later as I like both soft and al dente. I also personally don't mind the soup changing as it's different from what you originally get. Still good to me. Change can be good!
This place is quite popular from what I can see. A diverse set of patrons both Asian and non-Asian. Many arrived before opening, disappointed they're still closed and left. Some waited like we did. Others came in a lil later so a good portion of the restaurant was filled. With just 2 Chinese servers working, service was very good. I'd be very impressed if Rolling Spring Roll is Chinese owned and run.
This place overall is just very clean in food and interior. You leave warm and satisfied from a good, filling meal. I'd like to come back or hopefully they'll open another location in...
Read moreI can’t seem to write a review on Uber eats so I’m writing it here. I only order from here bc I don’t want to go to queens for pho. My kids love pho so we have it at least twice a week. First time we ordered, spring rolls were missing. Idk if they forgot or the driver ate it. Drivers will usually eat the food if it’s not packed in a bag. This place packs it in a box so everything is open. But I got a refund and the food was just ok so we ordered again and again and again. Then I noticed the noodle portions were getting smaller and smaller. No biggie. I keep extra at home bc my kids actually eats more than what they give. But today, my noodles came semi RAW!!! It wasn’t cooked and my kids almost threw up. Alrdy had a bad experience bc the food was late, taking almost two hours (delivery driver circled my block God knows how many times). You can only guess my kids screaming and shouting that they’re hungry and now I have to reheat the noodles. Shame on you, Rolling Spring!!! Unfortunately, this did it for me and I now probably have to go to queens for the pho or finally give in and learn...
Read moreTried out this local Vietnamese spot recently, and overall it was a decent experience. The service was a little curt—not exactly warm and fuzzy—but not rude either. Just kind of straight to the point, which honestly I don’t mind if the food delivers.
We came mainly for the pho, and one thing I really appreciated was that they offer it in three sizes. That’s perfect if you’ve got kids with you or if you’re not in the mood for a huge bowl. That said, the pho itself was just okay. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it lacked that rich depth of flavor I look for. Kind of on the bland side. That being said, the kids still slurped it up and were happy, so no complaints there.
The highlight of the meal was definitely the banh mi. The bread was fresh and had a great crunch, and the filling was super flavorful. I asked for extra jalapeños to kick it up a notch, but unfortunately they didn’t come through with that. A little disappointing, but not a dealbreaker.
All in all, it’s a good neighborhood spot. Probably wouldn’t travel across town for it, but if you live nearby, it’s worth...
