We have been faithful Hong Wah customers for several years, and have heartily recommended this restaurant to many friends. Unfortunately our experience was very disappointing on February 23, 2017, when we had lunch at Hong Wah. We arrived at 1 PM and the restaurant was busy, but seating was available. The owner did not seat us immediately even though we had requested a booth and several were available. We ordered hot and soup soup, chicken with broccoli and Hunan scallops with beef. The hot and sour soup had no flavor except for vinegar. The duck soup was so thin it dripped off the dry noodles. We waited 40 minutes for two meals, and we considered leaving without having lunch. When the meals arrived, one was only 60% the size of the other. After the meal, we asked for my lunch and my husband's egg roll to be packaged to take home. The waiter slopped everything together in one box, so the result was a glom of unappetizing food. I threw out the leftovers. Two of our favorite wait staff are no longer at Hong Wah during lunchtime. I don't know if they have left the restaurant or have changed hours. We miss them. All in all, this trip was a huge disappointment. we will not be back. To the owners: you are getting very inconsistent reviews on goggle. I will also be posting on trip advisor. Please bring your restaurant back up to its previously...
Read moreI’ve visited here and got take out several times and have always left pleased. I’m sad that they no longer have a dine-in option, but I can understand since it allows them to focus on food instead of everything that goes with a sit-down restaurant. The meals are always perfectly cooked with great portion sizes.
I placed my order tonight for myself, my parents, and my girlfriend, who is visiting amid her PhD studies. Hong Way makes scallion pancakes, which I absolutely adore and cannot find anywhere else. My mother prefers their beef & broccoli as well as their egg rolls. My girlfriend has tried several different dishes, including the Pad Thai chicken. It smelled quite spicy, but the cooked flavor was perfectly balanced. Their friend rice dishes are also a great balance of ingredients. And my father loves their beef Lo Mein, eating the entire dish in one sitting with how great it was.
Highly recommend Hong Wah for take-out both for their service and the fantastic quality of their food. They’ve always been a favorite of the Chinese restaurants on the East Side of Rochester and I plan to continue getting food from them anytime I need to feed a...
Read moreHit or Miss. Some visits you get excellent service, others you don't. If you have an issue with the dish, some servers will get it fixed, others don't care. Sometimes soda comes with refills, sometimes not. Overall, the lackluster effort on some servers ruins the entire restaurant. When you order food, you have certain expectations that should be met or at least addressed when you bring your concern up to the staff. Being told lo mein is supposed to be "dry" only demonstrates that this waiter doesn't know his food (hard to believe) or more likely, just doesn't care to be bothered and knew the kitchen had sent out noodles that had been prepared well in advance and sat under a heat lamp long enough to dry out.
When done right, the food here is very good, but if you only enjoy the meals 2 out of 5 times, then the problem is one that the staff and owners aren't bothering to address. This restaurant used to be one of the best in the area but of late, it's probably better avoided until there is a serious effort to correct the kitchen and...
