OK, I understand most people do not really know what a good crepe is so their point of reference may not be the same as my family or anyone who has traveled outside the US. First, we went in at 7:30 PM on a Tuesday. One man sitting at the espresso bar and two ladies in the corner chatting. They close at 8 (we didn't know this until we arrived) and could sense the young woman behind the counter was less than pleased with our "late" arrival. I get that. Have worked in the restaurant business myself and had we arrived at 7:50 and learned they closed at 8 we would have left. We came for crepes as we were excited to learn that the new cafe had a crepe griddle and maybe, just maybe, the staff was trained on how to make a proper crepe...? Yeah...wishful thinking. Hands down the WORST crepes in town. We asked for well done because it is not uncommon for places in smaller towns in the US to undercook their crepes. Crepes should be golden brown. So, despite asking for well done these were so undercooked they were nearly raw. The batter was thick and chewy and pretty much inedible. To the tune of $7 a crepe...!! We watched her make them and noticed she poured the batter, leaving it cooking for a LONG time (first red flag! A crepe griddle should be so hot that it only needs to cook less than a minute each side) but she never even flipped the crepe so the other side never even cooked at all! We are so puzzled. Why would the owner invest in a crepe griddle and have those as one of only 2 kinds of offerings on the menu (crepes and panini's) but not bother to learn or teach anyone to make them properly? The griddle needs to be HOT, the crepes should be a dark GOLD, not white! Such a shame. It would be SO easy to make good crepes. We spent $14 plus $3 tip and most of the crepes finished in the trash. Felt ripped off. Great location, used to be a decent little cafe....
Read moreI like to try different restaurants, but sometimes it’s a bust. I ordered the protein bowl which was very bland and tasteless. I was expecting scrambled eggs, but it was more of a fried egg folded over. I don’t like fried eggs. Adding salt - which I don’t normally do, helped some. I had asked for hot sauce on the side, but there wasn’t any in the container. I ended up splitting the bowl between the 2 dogs. The avocado toast was also a little bland, but it was more soggy than anything else. The Turkish wrap comes with vinaigrette dressing, which I asked for on the side, but didn’t get. Instead, a side of hot sauce was with the wrap. Of course I didn’t realize it until I had slathered the wrap in hot sauce - which was not my intention. So, that ended up being thrown away. The lettuce in the wrap was soggy making the entire wrap soggy. I realize stuff happens, but when the very first order is messed up, chances of going back are not good. The special requests were not complicated - I wasn’t asking for substitutions, or a special way to cook it, I just wanted hot sauce for the protein bowl and the vinaigrette dressing on the side - neither request happened and it could have made all the difference in the world. This place is too expensive to give the food to the dogs or throw in the trash, so I won’t be ordering...
Read moreFairPour is a little hidden but a nice gem with the usual coffee options and expanded tea menu with several FairBooch kombucha flavors on tap and chai from Chai Guy. Props for serving from local Rochester (and even local to Fairport) providers.
The interior is homey but spacious with a variety of seating options: high tables for 2-3 seats, low tables for 2-5 people, a couple of couches, and arm chairs. Plenty of windows with natural light and views over the canal on one side. There is outdoor seating but I'm not sure if it's related to the cafe or if you can take "for here" cups outside. There is wifi, for which you'll have to ask for the password as it's not listed. Most of the seats have outlets nearby (!) which is important to me as a freelancer.
The service was very friendly, helpful, and fast. I tried the coffee special listed on the counter: orange zest mocha latte (though I'm not sure if "mocha latte" is a bit contradictory). I've had this drink at one other place in NYC as well as homemade, both of which I liked a bit more, but it...
