Oh. My. Goodness. When I tell you that you need to go here you absolutely do. My family and I were traveling to go see Taylor Swift, and on our way there we stopped at Angry Squirrel. I am vegan and my little sister has celiac disease which basically means that even if any gluten touches her food she can and will get violently sick. We went in there not expecting much, it looked like an average restaurant at first and we only picked it because the name sounded funny. My family and I went in and I asked if I could get just a salad. Andrew said that he normally doesn’t do stuff like that but whatever works. When he was asking if I wanted any toppings on my salad he asked if I wanted cheese. I told him that I was vegan and he offered me a dressing that they technically didn’t even have on the menu. They were having an event the next day and he offered me that one because it was the only vegan dressing they had. My mom and dad don’t have any restrictions. My mom got the Thanksgiving Poutine, and my dad asked Andrew what he thought was best. Andrew proceeded to ask him how hungry is was and how spicy he likes is food. My dad said “medium hungry and medium spice”. He got a wrap with habanero sauce. We were having a hard time deciding what my sister can get and then he said that everything on the menu but the tortilla for the wrap and one other thing I forgot were gluten free. Literally the only things that had gluten in the entire restaurant was the tortilla and the other thing. We waited for around 10 minutes for our food to come which was great!! She ended up deciding on a poutine as well. My mom tried her poutine and loved it and my dad thought that his wrap was delicious. My sister also liked her poutine a lot. When I went up to the counter to get my food he told me that he also made some fried cauliflower for me. He put it in a separate bag because the oil was the same oil that is used to fry the chicken. I’m not too picky so I ate it and oh myyyy. It was so so so so good. I made my mom and my dad try it and they understood why I liked it so much. I did the same thing with the dressing and they had the same reaction. While we were eating we also sparked up quite a few conversations with Andrew. Some being where we were going and others being 90’s music. When we were finished eating I used the restroom,, then my sister, then my mom. During this time when my mom was using the restroom Andrew asked if I would like to know how to make the dressing, and of course I said yes! There wasn’t any paper so her gave me a menu/poster kind of thing and a pen to write with. He proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes explaining in depth how to make the dressing. He even said that if I had any questions on it I could reach out on Facebook. Both Andrew and my family and I could not stop saying thank you. It was truly one of the best if not the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. And it’s not like he was trying to get us to come there more by giving us things, he knew we were traveling and wouldn’t come back and he still treated us with the utmost respect. As I was walking out I even began to tear up a little bit, it’s very rare that people take dietary restrictions and certain diets into consideration so I am more than happy that he did. He said that “If people are going to put in the effort to come to my restaurant then I will try my best to get them what they want.” I feel like that isn’t as common anymore with most restaurants and we truly couldn’t be more appreciative than we are now. Thank you so so much Andrew, you made everything so...
Read moreI am celiac and my takeout options are limited, severely so in all but big cities. To find this gem in Fredonia is all but a miracle.
Andrew took GREAT care of us when there was an issue with our order and he made absolutely sure to fill me in on just how celiac-friendly this eatery is, and boy, is it! Other than the options between gluten-free wraps/buns and regular wraps/buns, literally every single menu option (meats, veggies, AND toppings) is 100% gluten free, and there is no risk of cross-contamination in the fryers because only GF products are fried. He also allowed me to sample different sauces, and my goodness, they were all amazing - my favorites are the Buffalo 6.0 (w/ carolina reapers) and the hot hungarian mayo (so rare, and perfect for any meal).
My non-celiac family members were as impressed as I was at the quality AND quantity of the portions - you won't find better of either anywhere nearby, and certainly not as allergen-conscious. Oh, yeah, it's not just gluten they work around, but dairy, tree-nut, shellfish, and even corn allergies! And the price is unbeatable, ESPECIALLY for being allergen-friendly.
Angry Squirrel became my go-to takeout literally overnight. I will patronize this restaurant as much as I possibly can to support them and keep them open. Please do the same. It's rare to find an establishment that cares for their customers so genuinely and thoroughly, and even more rare to find one that caters to those of us with severe food allergies.
Andrew, a million sincere thanks for spending the time to share the menu, sauces, and spirit of Angry Squirrel with me. I will be ordering every single time I'm in town visiting my parents, and I'll be taking food home to Pittsburgh with me as well. Keep up the...
Read moreLooking at all the other reviews I could just be a complete outlier or bought the wrong thing or waited too long to eat (10 minute drive home so maybe 15 minutes after the food was handed to me)
So try it yourself, but, heres my review
Was very excited to try the place out, the food on their social media looked phenomenal. And the reviews made it sound like it was the best fried chicken id ever have, so I got a few chicken/fry boxes for me and 3 others with a couple different types of the chicken.
Was very underwhelming, 6 thin strips of chicken (probably 1 small chicken breast per box) and two/three handfuls of fries for 15$ is pretty steep, but hey gotta make a living. And at least the chicken we knew was fresh because there were two bones or something very hard in two separate pieces. The fries were good, crispy, but the regular fried chicken was just not worth the price, tasted and felt like KFC.
Really nice guy running register (and I assume doing everything else), feel bad giving a not so great review, id like to go back and test other options with more flavors like the poutine, but at the price point idk if I want to take the risk of more upset stomachs and...
