Very disappointing. Firstly, the salad bar is gone. 2nd, the employees don't want to be there and the mediocre service shows. They seem preoccupied with many other things and reluctantly provide service giving an impression that the customer disrupted them of something for more pressing. 3rd, while the pizza was "OK" it certainly did not live up to it's $3.75 + tax price. I recall the days under the original owner when pizza @ Chai was something looked forward to. The falafel was of a rubbery spongy texture with really undercooked granules of chic peas that got annoyingly stuck between the teeth. The pita is a very poor frozen product. While the idea of having all the salads and condiments prepackaged so as not to cause a soggy pita/falafel, it's aim was negated by the poor quality frozen pita witch instantaneously disintegrated upon the introduction of the aforementioned condiments. The only reason I gave them a star was because when I was done eating, I was sate. And finally, that there were no fried items of the menu available, an integral component of any fast food establishment, is totally inexcusable. The proffered excuse was that the deep-fryer was broken. Without even peeking into the kitchen, I can come up with three different yet reliable solutions. Either the proprietor doesn't care because he continues to ride an old and outdated reputation, or he simply hired incompetent and non-concerned employees. Having known the original proprietor whose sincere concern for customer satisfaction was paramount, this is very disheartening. I will not be revisiting this establishment any time soon nor will I recommend it as a destination. My only hope is that the ownership/management takes my review seriously because I can't be the only...
Read moreI called in an order for Sushi while parked outside in the lot. A very cranky person told me it would take 25 minutes to complete. I pointed out that I'm right outside, and he reiterated that this is when it will be done. After 15 minutes I went inside and the Sushi chef told me that the order was put into the system with a pickup time of 30 minutes after my call, and that they were working on other, in-person orders that came in afterward. Apparently the phone guy was just trying to space out phone orders to allow the pushy Monsey eat-in crowd to get their food faster.
So far, so meh. But the bill arrived and apparently their Godzilla roll has actual dead mega reptile in it to justify the price. $15.50 for a roll. The tuna and salmon were $9 and $8 respectively. I asked the guy as yo why, and he replied dismissively "do you know what a Godzilla roll is?" I assured him that I do, and that I've ordered these same rolls from all over this county of ours for a fraction of the price. I understand the Kosher premium normally, but this is fish and rice -- not like you need to pay for a butcher to prepare it just so.
Of course, the real experience only begins once you open it up and start eating. Floppy fish, unevenly sliced, rice slipping off the roll.
Kosher restaurants are part of an oligopoly. Rather than experience price pressure and try to raise their quality due to competition, it's all a race to the bottom for quality and they raise prices in tandem. Disappointing, yes....
Read moreAs some others have said, absolutely bad customer service. For some reason they needed 2 kids (teens) to man 1 register. The one today wearing a collared shirt was absolutely AWEFUL. I ordered a simple tuna wrap from their electronic kiosk - nothing fancy. And when I went to the register to confirm what I wanted on it the collared shirt kid first acted confused and then said they did not have tuna wraps. When I showed him my kiosk receipt he had to ask someone. Then when I again tried to have a brief conversation regarding what I'd like on it he had someone take me over to to sushi section for some reason and then I got sent back to the front because they did not make wraps. At this point I'm starting to get upset ( I'm on a brief lunch break) and the same kid tells me to stop "bugging out". Again seriously wow. Then yet ANOTHER conversation to be had for something as simple as putting some chopped onions in my tuna wrap. Finally to top it all off, this same kid I see I texting on his cell phone even as he is waiting on customers at the cash register at the same time. They seem to have so much time maybe they need to do a bit of sweeping as the place is really dirty. Great...
