My girlfriend and I make a trek up to Wausau every couple of months and find ourselves eating at another local establishment for breakfast with her family. I'll point out up front that we're both vegans but the rest of our party aren't.
The atmosphere is "new" and welcoming. I fear that those sitting by the entrance in winter will be chilly but our table by the coffee bar was comfortable. There isn't much in the way of walls to muffle the various conversations taken place, so it's a bit louder than other places. Our server was solid but others in our party that have been there multiple times have said this is hit or miss.
In regards to the food, the coffee options were solid (and clearly explained on the menu for those that are unfamiliar with what each drink is) but the only vegan option we had available was a modified veggie skillet. This means a skillet with the eggs & cheese removed, leaving potatoes and some chopped up veggies. Here's a solid suggestion for any breakfast place looking to be more inclusive to dietary restrictions, buy a pack of veggie sausages and Just Egg (it's a brand of egg replacer available at most large grocers now) and keep it in the fridge. You may think there are only a few vegans out there but you'd be surprised. Feed the exception as we generally dictate where the whole party goes.
I hope to see the menu expand a bit. Feel how you do about our diet choices, we're a growing population that likes to eat out. Other than that, it's a solid dining option in Wausau! If you're staying at the Hilton across the parking lot, this should be your more affordable...
Read moreWe haven't been back in over 2 years. We asked for prices before we ordered. The waitress said she'd ask and never gave us an answer. My son ordered two meals and I said no, but she disregarded my request. Someone was training her and telling her how to handle things in Spanish, very rude. The waitress seemed nervous and didn't want to make us mad, but still did as the trainer ordered. Some of the food was good, some of it was pretty generic. The staff stood around and talked alot but didn't work much. With the prices being so high, wich you find out when the bill comes, I felt scammed by the trainer. I just couldn't give a normal sized tip due to the price being so high. I have a budget to live by. The building was nice looking. But there was construction or something going on that limited some of the parking lot. I assume the owners don't like to work hard because the staff is so slacky. Hard work pays off. But I'd go to Blue Willow any day before coming here. Ihop has some great meals as well and better service with a good price. I'd suggest the owners/management take a moment and eat at these restaurants and then compare.
Don't touch the under part of the table either, it was gross. I washed my arm immediately.
And we were rushed to finish our meals. It took longer to prepare them than what time we were given to eat them. I told her we weren't ready yet, but she brought us containers to put our food in anyways. So I ate the rest of my meal on the way home. Only one of us finished our meal at the restaurant, but he eats...
Read moreUpdating my review about the sneaky fee: I appreciate the company responding to this because we have always loved this restaurant. If the 3% were going to wait staff, no problem. But I stand by the fact that we wonât be back until this changes. If your ingredients etc go up - raise prices that is understandable. But for the business owner to need more money from people using cards, which is a cost of business, it comes off as super tacky, greedy, and out of touch. I hope the .90 cents was worth our lost business. Itâs not about the money itâs about the sneaky way it is billed to loyal customers and honestly if I ran a restaurant with a fee like that, Iâd be embarrassed. To me it says the business is cheap and that makes me question other things about it like food quality. If you donât want to take cards - then donât. I go to a few places (bakery, butcher) that are cash only locally because I like their products. It seems ridiculous at a full service restaurant with a modern vibe. Iâm sure I have given enough info in this review for you to see that we are loyal customers who always tipped very well. When you reverse your policy, we will be back! *PSAThey recently started charging a 3% fee for ânot paying cashâ. Itâs super tacky to me when restaurants consider a normal cost of doing business something to push directly onto the customer especially without warnings. Used to come here a lot but that says a lot about the owners to me, so I...
