Dee's Diner — Restaurant in Town of Salina

I don't review places I've only been to once for the sake of fairness but I'll make an exception:

This feels like one of those places where locals get to know the staff and get a bit blind to the actual facts of the matter. Went sometime back, got a special that was a single chicken thigh steamed with Italian seasoning, a cubed baked potato, and corn. Effectively a plate of retirement home food sitting on a puddle of water. Everything was wet. Not sauced. Just wet.

I realize this isn't the pancakes and such that they've probably locked in over the years but I was not going to have the best experience no matter what I ordered.

Why?

My waitress was courteous, not the most attentive (whatever fine) but she smelled alarmingly of old urine. Like, some places have a funk which whatever but this was beyond unappetizing, it was rank. Not trying to beat up anyone over a possible medical condition but the smell was SEVERE. I'm not going back, been around enough end of life care folks and know that smell has no business being...

I got corned beef hash with two eggs and toast. I asked for my eggs poached: one was under cooked with a broken yolk and the other had no yolk at all. The hash itself was tasty but a bit burnt. Of my two pieces of toast, one was burnt. I was surprised they would serve toast that was half black. My partner’s food was good. The servers were fine at first, but stopped going around to check on tables about midway through our meal. I asked one, who was wearing a political t-shirt, for some hot sauce and instead of getting some for me, she sat down at a table with some guests and showed them pictures on her phone. The other server never came back to our table and likewise sat down with some guests, though she was rolling silverware while she chatted. Rolling silverware can be mind numbing, so I can’t fault her for multitasking. We never received our check while other tables did. Will not be coming to this place again. I ordered some breakfast and when I got it, the food wasn't cooked the way I asked. When I told the waitress she sent it back and I saw the lady that was cooking catch attitude. So when my waitress came back. I told her to forget about the food I'm good. I don't want it, I will just eat what I already got at the table. When I was done and asked for the check, the waitress brought me my check and told me she had to pay out her pocket what I sent back. Lmao 🤣. I looked at her and said, " That's not my problem," 😂 like seriously? Who says that to a customer? Anyway, if a place is making there, wait staff have to pay for food customers send back because the cook didn't cook the meal right ? Then, that is not a good place to be working as a waitress.
