I joined a few of my dining partners out in Hampton Bays for Lunch at Cowfish.
Wow, I had forgotten how far Hampton Bays is from Western Suffolk, where I live.
I did not take the longest drive there, though, as 1 person came from Wantagh, and 2 came from Port Jeff. The rest of the group were from East of Moriches, so their trek out there was minimal.
But anyhow... The food..... Out of the 10 of us, not one person complained about the food.. The choices ranged from Crab cake sandwich, Tuna, Rueben, Blackened fish, Caesar Salad and a Burger. There were remarks by table about how good their food was.
I had the Burger, and I'm glad I did.
The menu stated that they use Certified Angus Beef for their Burger meat.
Maybe it's just me and my tastebuds, but it was one of the best Certified Angus Beef meats that I have ever tasted.
It had that earthy taste that I enjoy, and a bit of salinity, which is a nice offset to the earthiness of the meat.
It was as close to a perfect Medium rare, as you could get.. The Gruyere cheese I had with it, was great.. One of my favorite cheeses, for a burger.
The bun was also one of the best buns I've had in a long time.. they butter the inside, btw, which added to the flavor of the Burger.
I'd rank this Burger up there in my mythical "Top 20". It's not in my Top Tier of Burgers, but it's pretty close... Considering I had 83 burgers in less than 2 years, that is a good placing.
The fries were the Shoe string type. .. They were good.. Nice and crispy. Not my favorite, but completely acceptable fries.
The service was great....
Our Server, Dannelle, was as professional as can be; fast, efficient, and very pleasant. She handled our table of 10 without any problem.
The setting of Cowfish is second to none.
With the Shinnecock Canal as the backdrop, the marina across the way, the Bay off to the South, it reeks of what makes Long Island an alluring place in the Summer time. Even on the cloudy day we were there, it was still beautiful.
Parking is plentiful, and, if you wish, they have Valet parking. A bit hinky getting into the parking lot from the main road, but once you do it, it's a breeze.. Drive slow driving down through the alley, to the parking lot, as it is narrow, and a two way street..
Definitely recommended, highly.

Speaking of the menu, it is a delightful fusion of American and seafood cuisine, with each dish prepared to perfection. A standout is the "filet mignon” a hearty and flavorful medley of local seafood that is both fresh and exquisitely seasoned. The "Cowfish Burger" is another must-try, offering a unique twist on a classic with its perfectly cooked patty and innovative toppings.
The cocktails at Cowfish deserve a special mention. Each drink is crafted with precision and creativity, offering a range of options from refreshing classics to inventive concoctions that beautifully complement the dining experience. The "Bay Breeze Margarita" is particularly refreshing, ideal for enjoying on their outdoor deck overlooking the bay.
For those who appreciate a sweet ending to their meal, the dessert menu is tantalizing. The "chocolate chip dish" stands out with its perfect balance of tart and sweet, encased in a delightfully crunchy graham cracker crust.

Read moreWent for dinner. Were seated promptly. Service was attentive. My issue was mainly with the bar. Drinks were slow and who ever made my espresso martini did not know what they were doing. Small martini glass maybe 2/3 full, I received about 2 oz of liquid with more then half of what little liquid was there was froth. Honestly 3 sips. Oh and they charged me extra for baileys. So off to a bad start, I ordered spinach artichoke dip. It was good but not enough chips, had to ask for more. Ordered an old fashioned, again small, and in place of a luxardo cherry (my favorite part) was a maraschino (let down again) cherry Ordered the filet with loaded baked potato. I don’t mind paying $58 for filet but to the Charge $6 extra for fois gras butter was kind of steep for a 2 oz. Ramekin. Ate all my food, and my girlfriend got salmon which she enjoyed. we then went upstairs for one last drink on the deck, ordered another old fashioned to try again at the upstairs bar hoping it was just the bar tender. I thought downstairs bar tender was bad, upstairs was even worse, honestly the worst old fashioned I’ve ever had, it looked Ike aperol spritz, and tasted like there was no whiskey. $20 I want a glass of whiskey with a cherry not some nasty juice with an orange peel. Bar tender then proceeded to charge me for the wrong persons bill $63 for my old fashion which I was upcharge to $20 for makers which i couldn’t taste it was like vermouth and citrus juice with an orange peel. Bartender clueless. Had to tell bartender they made a mistake with bull at which point they said sorry we gave u someone else’s ticket. not impressed u charge too much to mess up this bad
3 drinks all disappointing, first one very slow, all over priced and very very little alcohol. If I spend $250 I want to at least leave with a buzz, I wouldn’t go back. If your gonna charge $20 for a drink train your bar...
