Obviously, one of the charms of the Plaka restaurant is its vintage decor and menu. It must be pointed out, however, that the menu has probably not been updated in a little while and offers side dishes like “homemade” corned beef hash. Unless “homemade” happens to be a brand name or their chefs are exceptionally skilled at making a product that closely mimics that which comes from a can, you may want to avoid that. Also, the “Aunt Jemima” brand name for syrup product was discontinued in mid-2021. Almost all foodstuffs have a “Best By Date” or “Sell By Date” that is generally indicative of an optimal range for using the product. Sadly, the Aunt Jemima brand syrup product we were served probably belongs on a collector’s shelf and not on the customer’s table. We also got a mild chuckle out of the well worn (and dated) labels on the other condiment bottles (none of which we used out of an abundance of caution). At that point we purposefully directed our attention away from the vintage aspects of the decor and ate our reasonably good (and hopefully not equally vintage) breakfasts.
Definitely, go for the decor. But be aware that the period accuracy of the decor may extend to food products placed...
Read moreIt was a saturday morning, driving by happen to stop. My BF and I went in for breakfast to be greeted by a waitress that did not seem happy to be there. She sort of threw out menus at us and asked us what we wanted to drink. No hello, how are you?, anything. So everyone has a bad day I overlooked that being it was early, maybe she didn't fiinish her coffee. The smell of alcohol was overbearing, but I assume that is why she doesn't have an office job. We were looking over the menu deciding what to order, all the while feeling like we were being watched, hurry and order. It is a small diner so I understand them being slow that early, but can I have time to look? So when the food arrived it looked good. The food had came hot and quickly. When my BF asked for hot sauce they brought him a bottle that was dirty and sticky, that was the case with my ketchup. We decided to not use the condiments. The food tasted great, other than the fact I felt sick later that night. On top of that they nickle and dimed us for all the extras. What greek restraunt charges for Feta, or refills on pop? We will not be returning to this greek diner anytime soon. We will drive to Panos or Kostas next...
Read moreI've been here many times in my life. Today might have been the last. Ordered a 1/3 burger with fries and an unsweetened iced tea. The tea had old, soft to the touch lemons on the rim. And the tea itself tasted funny. Might need to clean thier lines or machine. Burger tasted like I was eating a piece of meatloaf. The fries were actually perfectly cooked and tasted great. The very old looking plastic Hienz Ketchup bottle on the table did not have Hienz Ketchup in it. Way too watery. The Frank's hot sauce bottle has something other than Frank's hot sauce in it (lable was missing). When the waitresses asked how everything was, the person I was there with just got out of his mouth that everything was ok (which his was not either. He was just being polite) and she took off before I could address anything. When I was ready to cash out, I still had food on my plate and a full glass of tea. You'd think she would have asked if everything was ok. Or when I cashed out. When she herself cashed me out. But she did not. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed in my decision to stop...
