This review is a bit delayed as we actually visited China Wok back in October of 2022 during our road trip from Illinois to Maine, but we were just reminiscing about that road trip and the subject came up of, "Remember that Chinese Restaurant that tasted like heaven after driving all day/night through Up-State New York and the winding Adirondack Mountain roads?" and I was inspired to look it up- and wanted to leave it the review it deserves. We hadn't had a nice hot meal for some time at that point and were getting hungry, and knew everything would likely be closed already when we got to our destination in Lake Placid. So we did a quick google search and China Wok appeared to be the only place open that time of night within a pretty big radius. So we took a short detour off our route in Tupper Lake to check it out. We walked in and immediately loved the unique atmosphere/decoration and the kind gentleman behind the counter, who we assumed was the owner, greeted us warmly right away. We had the place to ourselves given the time of night, though it looked like he had quite a few take-out orders going out. We ordered our food and he cooked it up fresh for us, and it all tasted amazing. We will always refer to it as a hidden gem nestled in the Adirondack Mountains that we were fortunate enough to come across. Every time we go out for Chinese back home in Illinois, it just doesn't compare to the memory we have of our fresh-made, late night dinner we had in Tupper Lake. If you are ever traveling through and needing a hot meal like we were- definitely recommend you give it a try. We fell in love with the Adirondacks after this road trip and will definitely visit again. And when we do, we hope to visit China Wok again too!

I'm a fan of American Chinese food and I've tried a good selection of places in my travels and I can honestly say this is some of the best I have ever had! (especially 'off the beaten path'!) I highly recommend China Wok for anyone in the area looking for their go-to Chinese food or someone just passing through! I now stop in about once a week for a very filling and delicious lunch. I always dine-in and get a combination platter, which includes an entree with pork fried rice and a pork egg roll. The pork fried rice is something that sets this place apart from others to me - it is fantastic! Loaded with delicious chunks of pork (not just the red bits you may be used to) and other normal additions including onions and scrambled egg. I have enjoyed everything I have ordered including Chicken with Garlic Sauce, Beef with Garlic Sauce, Sesame Chicken, Boneless Pork Spare Ribs, and Chicken with Cashew Nuts. This is as much local, family-run small business as any! Bonus points for the Adirondack decor (several deer taxidermies). Backstory: I am living around the Adirondacks this summer doing field work (breeding bird surveys) and early in the season (end of May), I stopped in to give this place a try. Since then, I have made it a point to stop in whenever I am in town (about once a week). The restaurant is run solely by a couple (husband and wife) who have raised four kids in Tupper Lake. They are very good to you as long as you are good to them! I will fondly remember my fresh, hot meals with good company.

READ THE REVIEWS!! Don’t make the same mistake we did. Ordered on the phone and the lady said yes, she understood my orders. When it’s time to pick up and dine inside cause I needed to add fries, the bill came up to $67 plus tipping (cause I always do). So she placed an item I did not order and said that’s what comes out in their system! The chicken was only suppose to be chicken fingers and we got 6 pcs of tiny fried chicken “nuggets”. I asked what are the additional payments and services. The man inside the kitchen keep on yelling and sounds angry (probably on my questions) and the lady kept on justifying the bill and added services. She said because we are dining, she needs to clean up after us and the grocery items are expensive nowadays. This is already despite the price difference between cash and card use. We never argued, we just asked. We just needed to eat and be done and get out of there. Love Chinese food but this is the first really bad experience we had ordering Chinese food. It was an awful experience!

I had a very unpleasant experience with China Wok recently. It was challenging to place an order through DoorDash, as there was no Dasher available so we decided to pick up the order ourselves after contacting DoorDash and having them contact the restaurant to let them know we would pick up the order ourselves. However, upon arrival, we were rudely asked to pay for the order again, despite showing screenshots from DoorDash confirming the payment. We faced further confrontation about the payment process at the restaurant. After several calls to DoorDash, we eventually received our order, which turned out to be completely incorrect. The meal, costing nearly $70, was not worth the $20 we expected and was also of poor quality. I had a very unpleasant experience with Chinese food recently.
