✨ Lunch at Greek House – Johnson City, NY ✨
When you step into a family-owned spot that has been serving the community since 1991, you can immediately feel the love and tradition behind every dish. That was exactly my experience at Greek House in Binghamton/Johnson City.
I started with their Dolmanthes (stuffed grape leaves), beautifully presented with a side of avgolemono (lemon-egg soup) that carried orzo rice inside. The grape leaves were tender, perfectly rolled, and filled with a flavorful rice mixture. The lemon sauce was bright, velvety, and gave just the right tangy balance to the earthy grape leaves—comfort food with a burst of freshness.
Next up was a hearty plate featuring a mushroom omelet, home fries, and marble rye toast. The omelet was fluffy and generously loaded with mushrooms, while the potatoes were lightly seasoned, golden, and crisp in the right spots. The rye toast added a nice rustic touch, perfect for sopping up any leftover flavors.
What makes this place truly special is not just the food, but the story. The owner proudly shared that Greek House has been around since 1991, and it shows in the quality and consistency of their menu. Everything tastes homemade, as if it came straight out of a Greek kitchen.

Read moreOverall- decent food and I would eat it again. 3 stars because it's very average food in a specialty niche market.
The place was busy at 1pm on a Wednesday.
However... not as good as I expected when I walked in. We ordered 2 Gyros, a side of onion rings, and baklava.
The gyros were good but not totally authentic or "homemade". The meat was premade frozen meat strips, the white sauce on it wasn't traditional tzatziki sauce as it had little flavor and no seasonings, and if there were cucumbers they were not bifresh and may have been little shreds in with the lettuce. The onion rings were thin but delicious. The baklava was not what I know as baklava. It's usually a crispy pastry, many layers of the filo dough, with finely chopped walnuts, honey and cinnamon. This baklava had about 3 or 4 thick layers, was not crispy but mushy, liquid honey or something was all over the plate, over powering nutmeg taste, and way too sweet (like a cheap honey that has sugar added, unlike real honey that is pure).
The waitress was friendly and kind however one of our drinks went...
Read moreThe best Greek food I’ve had in a long time. I had chicken souvlaki wrap with fries and bean soup. My boyfriend had a gyro with fries and bean soup. Everything was very fresh and prepared perfectly. Don’t skip the fries! The portions aren’t huge but definitely sufficient. We wrapped up our delicious meal with rice pudding and carrot cake. The desserts were homemade amazingness also. We probably won’t ever leave without enjoying a dessert and can’t wait to try them all. Aside from the food itself, the restaurant was very clean and tidy. It’s kind of a small space, but they did a great job at maximizing it. It’s obvious that almost all the patrons were regulars, which I feel says a lot about a place. It almost felt like we were in the owner’s living room with how familiar everybody was with each other. Prices were fair. They incentivize diners who pay with cash, but do accept credit cards. All in all, I think we will become regulars ourselves. Can’t wait to...
