First (and last) time coming here. Came for late lunch. Inside was dark, not a lot of lights on but using windows at front for lights. Server 1 showed me to a booth table and there were a few other tables with people but not busy at all. Server 2 came over and got my drink order which was simple but seemed to not understand my accent (from the south where good Mexican food comes from) for water. At any rate server 1 brings chips and salsa. Chips warm. Salsa cold. Those the best to can say. The salsa is thick like a sauce for pasta as they blend it well here unlike most salsa that are a bit chucnky. Too sweet also. Chips were stale tasting. Ordered a lunch combo with tamale and Chile relleno. I asked server 2 who seemed annoyed by a question on what kind of sauce was on tamale. Also asked for flour tortillas. Good it came quick. That was nice. That was where it stopped being nice however. All the food was too salty. A salt lick would be less salty. The red sauce was over 2/3 the plate including most of the beans and part of the rice. Beans were ok once I got to them. The rice was dry and horrid. The part with sauce inedible because of salt. Tamale was small and mainly masa which had no seasoning surprisingly. Small amount of pork (I think?). The chille relleno was the highest disappointment. Not even fried like every single other chile rellno have ever had. They took a cooked poblano and put a piece of cheese in and threw sauce on top then put under broiler to melt cheese. It just became a cheesy saucy mess. I got the tamale down and a few bites of the relleno. Server 2 came back and gave me my check. Did not ever ask if I enjoyed the food or anything similar. Just plopped it on the table and left. Thank goodness I had enough cash could pay and leave and didn't have to interact with that person again. Server 1 was making utensil napkin rolls near the ext by bar area and didn't say goodbye either. Guess neither could be bothered to provide service or basic courtesy...
Read moreIt's been 4 years since my last review, and I decided to give Los Tapatios another shot. I'm happy to say that I'm glad I did, as most everything about this experience was much better than what I remember from my last experience.
Los Tapatios was a great stop for some authentic mexican food this weekend. During COVID their bar is currently not open, but they are doing indoor seating with the requirement to wait for a table outside if they are at full capacity.
On this visit I ordered the "pick 3" plate with Chile Relleno, Burrito, and a Chicken Quesadilla with a side of Tamales for our table to share. (Side rant, the pick 3 is only 50 cents more than the pick 2. Who in their right mind would ever do the pick two over the pick three? Just take the leftovers home for lunch the next day!) I was happy to see the tamales were wrapped in corn husks, as is authentic, and they were delicious. The pick three is plenty of food and on this visit allowed for me to take some home for lunch the following day.
The service was good! Wait staff was always prompt with topping off drinks. We did have a little wait for our food, however it was a busy night and the wait was not terribly long, maybe 15-17 minutes?
Overall, a much better experience than my first experience and Los Tapatios will be added back in to my rotation of dine-in restraints for the...
Read moreI went to Los Tapatios last night for the first time. My fiance and I recently moved upstate and we love Mexican food and decided to try this place out after seeing the "ok" reviews. I read that the margaritas were "HUMUNGOUS" and figured that that was an indication enough that we may get our money's worth. Turned out that the margaritas comes out of a slushy machine. We order "beef nachos" and it was horrible, chips with a topping of overcooked crumbly beef that tasted like spam, literally, I've had my fair share of Spam in Hawaii and taste is the strongest memory, and the white cheese sauce (queso blanco) was too watery. We both took two bite and left it alone. Our main course were chimichangas and burrito deluxe, both were equally horrible in taste. The seasonings were mild but should have been more flavorful even if it seasonings were tweaked for the American palettes. I don't know how many the other reviewers have eaten at multiple Mexican restaurant in country but this place was the worst. I have had Mexican food in California, Mexico (no comparison of course) Texas, Arizona, NJ and many other small town in the upstate NY areas and I can honestly say that Los Tapatios was THE worst Mexican restaurant My fiance and I have...
