Winter 2014 DISGUSTED!!! I had the pleasure of dealing with the "owner" tonight. What a JOKE. We were placing our order, and the phone rang. He asked us if he could take this...no problem. But it IS a problem when they had come in...picked up their food, and were home before we even saw our food. And we were there first. Whatever...10 min is not why I am writing this. It gets SO much better. We ordered 3 plates with extra sauce on all of them, but we wanted it on the side because its better that way if you are not eating it at that exact moment. While we are waiting, and phone in guy is home, we noticed that the Hertz Sauce that normally sits on every table is no longer present. That is because they "get stolen". So do they put it behind the counter....NO. They want you to pay for it...and we did. It gets better...when I finally get my food I notice 2 things. NO BREAD and TINY 2 oz hot sauce cups. 3 of them...now remember that we ordered 3 plates with EXTRA sauce, and probably were charged for it. So first I ask whats up with the bread. You have to ask now because the owner thinks that this will put his kids through college if you "forget" to ask for the bread that EVERY OTHER HOTS IN ROCHESTER puts in the bag...with butter. We asked for bread and didn't even get a pat of butter. Still...not even why this is being written. When I looked in the bag there was 4-5 oz of meat sauce between 3 plates(Three 2oz cups not even filled). I went back inside to see about getting some more sauce, one of their "free" items, according to their takeout menu. No dice....that PRICK actually expected me to buy a tub so I could enjoy the plates that I bought there. The main reason why this loser doesn't deserve a single penny...he would rather lose a good local customer over .40 cents. Just this trip we dropped $33. Never again. Peace.
UPDATE
As of December 2016 The above review is over 4 years old....rest assured that Webster Hots is back as the spot to get a plate on the east side. They've changed owners a few times in the last 4 or 5 years, and one or two of them did not know how to run a restaurant. That being said, things are good again. Plenty of hot sauce, which is excellent by the way, and great plates. If you read my review above, I NEVER had an issue with the food....it was the terrible service and penny pinching ways....I believe the menu has stayed the same and for good reason. Like I said, new owners and they totally deserve to have a fair shot not being burned by past mistakes. If you're on the East side of the city, make the trek out here for a plate...2nd best in all of ROC in my opinion getting slightly edged out by Steve Tahoe's on Lyell, but that is 20 miles away...Webster Hots has some of the best meat sauce in Rochester, on point Mac salad and big burgers. Order with confidence and enjoy one of Rochester's classic...
Read moreI Went into Webster Hots the other night at 10:45ish not realizing they closed at 11pm so perhaps my experience has something to do with the fact that i came in so close to close...
I ordered a cheeseburger plate with everything... what I got was cold stale home fries. what tasted like plain noodles instead of Mac Salad. two very hard very burned cheeseburgers... well I say cheeseburgers they were more like rocks with un-melted cold cheese slapped on. then he gave me about a table spoons worth of what was supposedly hot sauce.
While cooking my food the worker walked away for long periods of time to do his closing duties. his priorities were clearly to get the hell out and not on the paying customers food. he barley spoke to me he looked, acted and sounded very angry and annoyed.
my mistake for going in so close to closing time... And my mistaken for not inspecting my plate before leaving... But I don't have to worry making that mistake again because I will never...
Read moreMy wife purchased a fish fry for herself, and a cheeseburger plate for me. I ate the plate and it was decent, didnt like the mac salad but not a big deal. The fish fry on the other hand, by far the worst we have had and we get them often. It was rubbery, dry on the inside and honestly the flavor was disgusting. She called to speak to someone about the fish fry, and spoke to the owners wife. My wife was very nice (too nice in my opinion) about it and was just explaining the issue and the owners wife would not hear it, just basically telling her she doesnt believe her. The owner got on the phone, and continued to stick up for the fish, instead of just trying to rectify the situation. Then he continued to insult my wife by asking her if shes ever eaten fish before. Take my advice and dont go here, for the simple fact that the owner is a moron and I would expect not to be in business long with...
