Texas Hot is a true community anchor of a place that welcomes everyone. I've been enjoying the food here for 25 years, and I've always felt welcomed. No one makes better breakfast! Eggs and toast, hash browns, superb omelet choices, and oatmeal so good it needs nothing (but it can come with milk and brown sugar), and you cannot find a better cup of coffee around. The lunch and supper options are scrumptious; some favorites are spanakopita (call ahead to see if they have it today if that's your desire as it is homemade in small batches and sells out!), breakfast is an option all day, gyros, sweet potato fries, regular fries, I've never had a bad meal. The liver and onions supper is great! If you're looking for a fresh, satisfying low-carb option, try the chicken or tuna salad cold plate! I get mine with cole slaw and cottage cheese. Dessert is the stuff of dreams... many, many choices for homemade pies, some cakes, cookies, sundaes. Try the peanut butter pie. There aren't too many places like Texas Hot left, and the owners and staff run an efficient, clean, and friendly operation. A side note... I've often wondered how many love stories began at Texas Hot, as my Husband and I had our first date there. Kids all the way through to the Old Timers, there's a good meal waiting for you...
Read moreWe decided to check this place out since we are from Hornell & love our Texas cafe. We were excited and found a seat for the three of us in the back as to not inconvenience anyone with our 1 year olds booster seat and excited behavior. The waitress came over and said our table was dirty and proceeded to reach around and wipe it with bleach. Kind of odd but not a huge deal. She was not warm or welcoming and immediately asked what we wanted. We didn't really know where the menus were but I quickly found them and gave one to my spouse. The waitress rushed away and said she would be back. Zero offer for beverages so we sat and perused the menu. Everything sounded appetizing and I'm sure it was delicious and home cooked. Unfortunately we waited for about five minutes, realizing we wouldn't even be offered beverages we decided this was not a place that was welcoming to our young family. So we left and are currently on our way to the Texas Cafe in Hornell. Where we are always welcome and...
Read moreI've been coming to Wellsville New York and visiting Texas Hot for 30 plus years for their Famous Fish Fry and brought quite a few friends along with me. The fish has always been excellent and sticking out over the ends of the plate and the creamy coleslaw was outstanding. However my most recent trip as of the other day was very discouraging. The plates are smaller, the fish is smaller and greasier, the french fries were disgusting, most were less than an inch long and had black spots. It looked like they were scraped off the floor next to the Deep fryer. That wonderful creamy coleslaw wasn't wonderful anymore. It looked and tasted like a dish of shredded cabbage with a cup of milk poured over it with nothing more than excessive salt added. I don't think I'll be going back anymore. Now I understand why the locals don't Rave about the place anymore but prefer the little diner...
