Came in a little over an hour before closing time. It took us a few minutes to find something we wanted to order because the prices were so high for diner-class food and the menu wasn't arranged in way to make quick decisions easy. The service we had was impatient with us, at best. It was likely because it was getting close to closing time, but it was pretty annoying to have our waitress keep coming back to our table and looking at us so as to hurry us along in our decision-making process.
My wife and I ordered a burger and a stack of pancakes with sausages. At the time we ordered, no other orders were going through (there were only 3 other booths still occupied). After waiting for a considerable amount of time, we finally asked another waitress about our food. She went in the kitchen and almost instantly came back to our table with our food in hand. Our food wasn't piping hot. It was just warm, like it had been sitting in the kitchen for at least a few minutes.
The crown jewel of this whole experience was the "burger" we received. Granted, the normal stack of 3 pancakes and 2 sausages (charged separately) were delicious. The "burger," on the other hand, was not even a joke. It was an insult. I feel bad for describing it so, but we were so disappointed to come from halfway across the world only to be served the saddest excuse for a burger that we have ever seen right here in what Asia considers "the land of burgers". Not even in China did we see a burger sold as just meat and buns, much less charge $7 for that and only that. What you see on the red plate is what was brought out to us and vigorously described as a "burger". It was only after voicing our utter shock and disbelief that our waitress came back out with some iceburg lettuce and 3 slices of tomato. We were then educated on the fact that lettuce and tomato are available on the $10 deluxe burger (thanks for not charging us for the lettuce and tomato, by the way). Sure enough, anyone bothering to closely read the menu would find that explanation included in the description. All that aside, it's a disgrace to try and convince patrons that a burger consists of just a slab of meat sandwiched between two buns. That's not a burger. It's not even a sandwich. It's just two buns with a piece of meat between them.
To be fair, the pancakes and sausages were good, and the desserts in the case really did look awesome. After the "burger" experience, though, we didn't have any desire to try anything else. Also, the service we received wasn't all bad. However, the negative aspects reflect poorly on everyone involved.
I generally shy away from giving reviews. This is my first one ever, in fact. I just felt a moral obligation to report on what we were served. Especially considering that the rave reviews were the primary reason we decided to try this place.
Final note: This place may be good for coffee and dessert. The prices are high. Don't be surprised if you have to wait longer than expected for your order to come out. Normal burgers start at $10. If you have money to burn and want a couple of laughs, order the...
Read moreI live in Yorktown over 20 years, and have witnessed the quality in food, service and cleanliness just waste away at this diner . It's sad that I felt compelled to write this review but enough is enough. I ordered a French Dip Panini, but what I got was dead road kill that had no resemblance of any kind of roast beef. The type of meat that if you saw what was sandwiched in between my panini, you would think it was meat from the dead squirrel in the parking lot. I'm not even trying to be funny I'm stating facts. It was horrible. I left the whole sandwich minus 2 bites before I gave up on it. So for 2 people here is what we ordered, my French Dip Panini my wife ordered a Turkey and Swiss wrap, which she found to be dry and only ate half of it, an appetizer of disco fries and 2 cokes, cost me a little over 55 dollars, then add only a 6 dollar tip, cause the waiter brought me a French Onion Soup by mistake at first instead of the panini. No biggie right ? $61 dollars !! to eat disco fries basically. I asked my wife to go ahead to the car so she didn't have to be embarrassed when I discuss the bill with the person behind the register. First I asked him if he owned the place, he stated no but it's the same owners from years ago, I asked him what about the cook ? He said the same been here a long a time, he asked why? I told him cause the place changed, I didn't eat my dinner, and my wife didn't like hers as well. He didn't have a care in the world, he kept ringing up my bill on his cash register, he DIDN'T offer to take any money off the bill, not even a I'm sorry, nothing !! He did ask if I wanted my receipt... the balls !!! Bye bye another place that will be closing it's doors in due time, cause you can't hide how bad the...
Read moreAs we still don’t have power I took my 23 month old and 4 year old to have breakfast. My 23 month old wanted a piece of bacon and I asked if I could buy just a piece as I’m sure they make there bacon in batches at that time. The waitress tells me she can only sell me a full plate, and directs me to the cashier if I have any questions. Speaking with that gentleman, I asked him what that big deal was if I was willing to pay a dollar a slice? He anchors to the fact they only sell bacon by the plate. Then I tell him the only reason I’m there is because I don’t have power and that all I’m asking for is a small portion for my 23 month old son. His response, “I don’t care if you don’t have power and it’s not my problem.” Disgusting! I am not sure if he was having a bad day, but that kind of attitude in the service industry is utterly horrible. Even beyond that, as people have we really come to the point where we stopped caring about even small children. I understand times are tough, but the lack of humanity is lost on me. I just can’t support any business that doesn’t support the community it serves. Please just be aware of the type of people you are supporting by dining there. There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to help...
