Wanting to try a new sushi place for our anniversary, my wife and I tried Takumi last week after seeing all the positive reviews. While there were a few things we liked about Takumi, the major disappointments with our experience heavily outweighed the good.
Let’s start with The Good: Fish was some of the freshest we’ve ever had. It nearly melts in your mouth. My wife absolutely loved the king salmon sashimi. The place was nicely furnished. It was a romantic setting for our date night. Everyone who worked there was very friendly.
Now onto The Bad: The host told us we only had 1.5 hours because we booked through OpenTable. Never had any restaurant give a time limit before… even when booking through OpenTable. While I personally love EDM music, it was out of place. It reminded me of the swanky restaurants in Philadelphia oriented to a younger crowd (20s & 30s). However, more than half the customers that night were easily in their upper 40s and older. There was lipstick on one of the glasses of my sake flight.
And finally, The Dealbreakers: We were seated at 5:40. Our waitress didn’t take our orders until 6:15 and we didn’t get our dinner until 6:30. She didn’t even get our drink orders first so we could at least enjoy them while waiting. In fact, my sake flight came out after our entree was served. Our waitress took the orders of 4 different tables around us before she took our order despite the fact that they were all seated after us. All 4 tables were eating before our order was even taken. We ordered the sunset roll, fiery roll, and meet me in summer roll. The meet me in summer roll was the least favorite roll we’ve ever had (from anywhere). Sunset roll is also among our least favorite. The various flavors of the ingredients in each these two rolls did not complement one another. It was like a war of competing flavors was taking place in my mouth. For example, with the meet me in summer roll… one moment I was tasting the salmon and tuna, then the mayo decided to show up for a quick second. Next thing I knew, pineapple decided to throw a big party in my mouth until passion fruit completely took over the party while salmon and tuna were sitting quietly somewhere in the corner of the room.
Conclusion : We really wanted to like this place. We were excited when we first walked in and seated. But it was death by a thousand cuts. We would have still been happy if it was just the delayed service or just the lipstick on the glass. Unfortunately, the unsatisfactory service and the “war of the flavors” rolls left us incredibly...
Read moreTakumi Wayne is a brilliant sushi restaurant that delivered one of the best experiences I’ve had recently in this genre. Located in Devon village, where Whole Foods is located as well, this location is so central for many and has plenty of complimentary parking, it’s ideal at dinner time rush.
The menu has a varied array of appetizers that are hot and cold. We picked a few that included the rock shrimp, , ahi tuna tartare, the pork gyoza and the toro toast (amazing dish) and one of my favorites The salmon tartare, we couldn’t stop saying oh my this is so fresh oh my this is so tasty! that was a phrase to use a lot tonight! All of the appetizers chosen were gone in a flash since they were so well done and perfectly presented on beautiful dishes with amazing sauces just the appetizers were enough for dinner but we were here for the sushi as well!
An amazing selection of three sushi rolls, The Takumi roll was a mix of salmon and tuna on top and was a hit. The out of control roll was simply amazing as that taste combination is truly terrific. As well as the breezy scallop roll, seafood roll at its finest. These roles were really varied and so beautifully displayed and equally as delicious. I have to be specific here and say that we are so lucky to have amazing sushi in our area but tonight‘s was a step above. Totally blown away by the sushi. A beautiful setting and the bar cocktail menu was epic, you can’t go wrong with any choice and the cocktails with sake were amazing. Added in was a dish for us all to share, the steak and fried rice. Such beautiful flavors from so many dishes tonight. We said we felt as if we were in a center city or New York City sushi restaurant just right here in Wayne. (And it’s Wayne/Devon border as we learned so all the questions about address will be Wayne/Devon here on out)
We found out tonight that Takumi means success and overcoming the obstacles and after the last few years in the restaurant business that name says a lot and we wish them so much luck and after our dinner tonight I feel that because of their fantastic location, their beautiful calm interior and sushi and appetizers that hit it out of the park adding truly amazing cocktail menu this will be a new place for our family so I certainly hope your family is the next visit, I highly recommend that trip! Add in some ice cream and also finding out they currently have a Main line restaurant week menu get in your car and get over there asap!!! Cheers🥂🥂 — at Takumi...
