We love the Hickory House. It has always been one of our very favorite restaurants. The food is great and the staff is excellent. I have gone to the Hickory House since they have been at their present location and even before that at their former location.
On December 15th my wife and I went there for dinner about 5:15pm. It was dark and since I am a recent kidney transplant patient I used my handicap card to park in the first handicap parking spot. The area was not well lite and all I saw was the sidewalk heading in to the restaurant. I took a couple steps and fell because there was a drainage section that was not marked in any way nor lite. I fell hard with shoes flying off and hitting my foot hard along with the knee. Since it was a joint implanted knee I had to go get checked to see if damage was done to the joint. Fortunately it was not but it involved with an additional medical expense that was really not necessary. I also had to have a podiatrist check my foot as well. Again, I’m so happy that the foot was just bruised and skinned up. I was wearing a tuxedo because I had just performed in a concert. That tuxedo had to be cleaned to try and remove marks from the fall. Unfortunately the marks would not come out.
When we informed the management, they really didn’t seem to care at all. In fact one of the managers told me that parking in their lot was at my own risk.
Two days after this happened the Hickory House painted the area and put up a sign. Hopefully they increased the lighting in the area. They blamed the City of Reynoldsburg for putting in the drain but no one bothered to put some sort of alert about this area and what is even more ridiculous is that it was in Handicap Parking. (As a side note i contacted the City of Reynoldsburg only to get no response). I figured that they feared litigation of which I would not have done. I would have liked to have some concern expressed and show that they really cared for their customer.
I do not plan to go back to this restaurant again because I feel that their management is not caring for me, the long time customer. There wasn’t even a phone call a few days afterwards to see how I was doing. Wouldn’t that have been nice or the right thing to do. At least there are other quality restaurants that we can go to the next time.
I have always thought that you follow 3 things - do the right thing, always try to do your best and show people you care. Hopefully Hickory House will adapt this philosophy...

We arrived at peak dinner hour. The establishment was prepared with plenty of seating for the hungry folks waiting. The hostess was extremely friendly and gave us a waiting time of only 15 minutes. Quite surprised, and unsure they would be able to make their 15 minute wait time stick I started timing. They made it with time to spear, 11 minutes and we were being seated!
In 8 minutes from being seated we already had our drinks and beautiful dinner salads. The salads were refreshing. The pleasing crisp lettuce was topped with fresh onion, tomato, cheese, and crispy chow mein noodles. It had just the right amount of blue cheese dressing. The dressing was absolutely delicious. Not sure if it is a house dressing, however, the creamy mixture had wonderful chunks of blue cheese perfectly spread throughout. While enjoying our salad the appetizer of onion straws with a house BBQ sauce was delivered. The crispy breading on the straws of onion, drizzled with the sweet and tangy BBQ sauce dance on my tongue. When our dinner arrived I was so excited. I ordered the pick two. The sirloin steak cooked medium rare did not disappoint. It was cooked perfectly. The savory mouth watering juices sparkled with every bite I took. No need for any steak sauce here as the beautifully seasoned meat did its job. The BBQ ribs just fell apart. The thick season rubbed meat was melt in your mouth heaven with the drinkable sauce that was slathered on it! The baked sweet potato was precisely cooked with the precise amount of cinnamon honey butter to mix through. My husband cleaned his plate so I'd say the award winning porterhouse lived up to its name! He complimented the chef by saying it was the best meal we'd shared in ages. Our absolutely delightful server Alexis K. never missed a beat. She was on top of our needs and served us with just the right amount of check ins and end of dinner conversation. Amazing job to her and incredibly phenomenal job being done in their kitchen.
I highly recommend the Hickory house! The prices are what you'd expect for a steak house and the incredible food is worth every penny. You can't go wrong dinning here! Thank you Hickory House! We will definitely be back...
Read moreCame here for lunch with my parents, my mother has a handicap and as a result difficulty walking. Was very pleased to see all of the handicapped parking spots right in front of the restaurant entrance; coupled with an easily accessible ramp leading directly into the restaurant. The doors are a bit tedious as guests must pass through two separate doors to get in. But once through, there is plenty of egress for wheelchair access and ample room for people who need extra time and help getting in and out of the restaurant.
We were seated immediately upon arrival. They asked if we'd prefer a booth closer to the front, which I thought was very considerate given my mother's mobility limitations. Drinks were promptly brought out to us, and we ordered lunch. This was my very first experience at Hickory House. I ordered the soup of the day which was a southwestern corn chowder which was delicious, and had a nice spicy kick to it. Our meals came out pretty rapidly, as the lunchtime crowd was on the smaller side. I had their barbecue ribs and they were amazingly good. The house barbecue sauce was not too sweet or too hot, they really nailed the flavor for that one. Everything we ordered was fresh and enjoyable. My only complaint was we all felt rushed - out waitress checking on us more than we'd prefer, even to the point of asking if she could take the check away once it was paid as she had to "pick up the kiddos". I can appreciate and respect a busy mother doing her best to keep things flowing smoothly at home, but I was left feeling like we were on her schedule the entire meal, and not our own. This was disappointing, so I could only justify 4 stars. The food was incredible and they do seem to go out of their way to accommodate those with any special needs. However, being rushed through a meal which was intended to have more time for catching up and conversation, was instead frequently punctuated with constant interruptions throughout. This took away the comfort level progressively. So to summate - great food, noteworthy accommodation in and out, but shoved through lunch like herding cattle. If I visit here again, I'll be sure to let the wait staff know that we wish to...
