Sadly although the name says itās a New York bagel deli itās very far from it for many reasons. We ran one of the most successful bagel and breakfast sandwich shops in New York City and I can tell you when I first saw the sign I thought wow all the way over here and Tryon maybe we actually have a real New York bagel deli. First off if youāre actually from New York and you come in here youāre going to be disappointed at several things one the speed of service and the attitude of the employees which are not what you might be used to back home where people move fast and actually understand what youāre ordering. They never answer the phone which is very frustrating too because several times Iāve tried to call ahead for an order in the phone never gets answered. And now theyāre on some modified hours only open Wednesday through Saturday in a few hours on Sunday. The few times I have gone and itās been packed and service is very slow I got a bagel egg and cheese one day and it was nothing to really write home about. Not sure who Katie D is but she can do better. Also the parking is a nightmare be aware of it before you go. If you want a real treat I suggest trying any of the two Joeyās bagels locations in Hendersonville or Asheville that will be a real New York style experience I wish they would put one in Tryon. However and excellent egg on a bagel can be had at the Tryon IGA. Your deli counter is open seven days from 8a to 7P. I got a bacon egg and cheese bagel there for $3.29 and it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI tried Katie's based on the glowing reviews. I was disappointed. Not bad but lacking in so many areas. They seem somewhat disorganized and inexperienced. Having the cashier sitting at the register like a receptionist was a. little weird. The bagels are good but the sandwich was just so so. The roll was ok but lacked that little "crack" you find in a hero from a place like Parisi's, It ,ay be sourced in NY but if it is our loses something in the shipping. The crumb in a hero roll should be somewhat dense but it should have a little spring to it as well but there was no spring in this one. They were generous in the fillings so no complaints there though, and I digress, I am so tired of bragging about using Boarshead meats. There is nothing special about Boarshead. Look at the labels, They have the same ingredients as deli meats you might buy at any grocery chain in the US. They've sold us on being superior but they're not. Anyway, I'll return and try something else but I hope it's not just ok, as this trip was, and they develop into something...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreReally cute place. The lady who assisted us with our order was amazing. She was very helpful and kind. She said, āyes maāamā to me after everything, and it was so sweet I ended up saying āyes maāamā to my husband on accident because it was heavy in my mind. š
They serve bagels, custom make your own sandwiches that are made with Boars Head meat, and they have an array of side salad options to go with it. There is a small seating area inside and a few tables out front.
I had an Italian hoagie with lettuce, jalapeƱos, tomatoes, and roasted red peppers. The sandwich usually has balsamic vinaigrette, but I opted for mayo. My sandwich was super tasty, and the macaroni salad was very good too. I am pretty picky about that so I was very impressed.
My husband had turkey and jalapeƱo jack cheese on a toasted everything bagel with his choice of toppings. He also enjoyed his very much.
I would definitely recommend this...
