I've eaten there before and had good service and good food. Today we went in and noticed things have been modernized. Unfortunately it seems their attention to detail and quality of the food is lacking. We entered and tried to order three hotdogs. We were told that we needed to sit down at a table and order using a QR menu. We waited and waited and finally a waitress came to take our order. Two Sonoran style dogs and a Carne Asada dog the later as ato go item, and glass of water and a bottle of water. We got the water, and the two Sonoran Dogs. The waitress told us the carne asada would be delivered shortly. We ate the Sonoran Dogs, drank the water and asked several times for the carne asada hotdog. We paid and still asked for the last hot dog. We were told to sit and wait. I said no we've been waiting, we want to go. The waitress then said she didn't put in the order because the hot dogs get soggy if not eaten right away. I said I've been asking and you said it was being made. So she asks the cooks for a carne asada and they tell her she has to wait because they already got a big order. We wait some more and finally they give us styrofoam container and a napkin. We open the container and there's no carne asada. One waitress says carne asada hotdogs don't have a hot dog only Asada. I say where's the asada. The other waitress says it's at the bottom under the hotdog, but she struggles to find any Asada. Then I'm told the asada is in there and just take it. I asked for a refund and they had a difficult time trying to issue a refund. The money was supposedly returned to my card although the receipt they provided doesn't state that. If you want a Sonoran dog, go to the first avenue location or better yet go to...
Read moreWe waited for a while to be greeted and seated, after a while the staff finally showed up only they began to try and seat the family that just walked into the place. We were seated and had to grab our own high chair as our server just decided to walk away. My family waited for her to come back around and when she did return, instead of asking us if we were ready or needed anything, The server assigned to us just walked right past us and she began to help another table with the same family, that had just walked in the door earlier, again. When it came to my plate (the carne asada torta ) very little meat was served and with my wife's plate at least 2 flour tortillas seemed to be not (fully cooked). There were few people at the time we went and yet people had been complaining as we all waited for most of the salsa bar to be restocked.it definitely was not appetizing to see the salsa bars glass top layered with dust, as if not to have been cleaned for a very long time. After finishing most of our meal, My wife asked a server to break a bill for a few quarters ( to pay for the candy vending machines ) and they said they would check but again just walked right past us a few times. While waiting to receive our bill at the entry counter. My wife left a $0 tip via card ( on the receipt ) as she was going to leave a cash tip. The server was clearly very upset as she chose not to make eye contact or say thank you when my wife explained that the cash was her tip. Not the best for various reasons anymore...really hoping these past few times are not a permanent change in...
Read moreWe were in Tucson for the second time and wanted to try BK's Sonoran hot dog after trying El Güero Canelo on our first visit. We thought that the Sonoran dog at El Güero Canelo was slightly better, but only by a slight margin. We're from Chicago, and obviously have a prejudice toward the Chicago dog, so our opinion is a bit slanted....but, the Sonoran dog seems to lack something, though it is tasty. I added a bunch of chopped onion to mine, and that seemed to help.
I also tried the carne asada and cabeza (cow's head) tacos. I didn't even know what "cabeza" was when I ordered - I'm brave and like to try new things, especially things I've never heard of. They were both excellent. The carne asada had a nice sear and smokiness to it. The cabeza, which was shredded, very moist meat, was just plain yummy. Flavor-wise, cabeza reminded me a bit of lengua (cow tongue).
The salsa and condiments bar, which seems to be relatively common in the area, is excellent, and made the tacos really pop. I wish Mexican restaurants in Chicago would add salsa/condiment bars.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. If we're in the area again, we would definitely stop in for a quick bite to eat. They have live music some days/evenings. While were were eating, a band was setting up on their outdoor...
