Lost that lovin feeling ... gone ... gone.. gone ! Spoiler alert !! Having lived in and out of Tucson for 15 yrs, a return trip to the city after 7 away called for a breakfast at one of my favorite past stops - The Blue Willow. A group of 4 of us hit the site yesterday and quickly settled in to a nice inside table .. we were hosting another couple from out of state so we gave the spot high kudos from our past experiences (its been a few years). The first red flag was that our waitress took our request for coffee and did not return .. so we waited, and waited .. and waited. Eventually a fellow wait staff came back to help us out with a cup of Joe, thankful. Our waitress then returned and took our orders .. my wife ordered one of her favs an omelet but was disappointed to hear the Willow discontinued carrying raisin toast (bummer as it was a good one). I opted for the Huevos Rancheros with rye toast - and was asked about jelly we both said yes please, we remembered in the past they had a nice selection of homemade choices. Well red flag #2 when they put the el cheapo kind of jam on our table (you know the one, square plastic packaging with contents that have names like mixed jelly - YIKES) bummer, things were not looking good. Finally the food arrived and my Huevos looked a bit whinny and most certainly not fresh .. and true to color the dish was lukewarm (not hot) and not overly tasty - red flag #3. So unlike me I opted not to clean my plate, my heart wasn't in it and I was losing that lovin feelin. I was also disappointed that they shifted away from the traditional cut red potatoes with bell pepper and onion - now gone .. and replaced them with these cube like white cut potatoes seemingly pulled from the Denny's menu.- At the end of the day, a sad moment for a once great spot that "was and now .. isn't." The $$ we paid was only familiar piece - way overpriced for the quality and quantity that seemingly is now the norm. My new recommendation is to move on - FYI - the gift shop had also lost some of its luster too and had some products that were x rated so for kids keep the blindfolds on please.

Walk through the blue-trimmed doorway of Blue Willow in Tucson and you’re not entering a restaurant—you’re stepping into a lovingly kept classic Tucson home where the clock slows, the coffee flows, and strangers trade smiles like neighbors. The dining rooms creak with the charm of old wood and better stories; it genuinely feels like breakfast at your grandmother’s—if your grandmother had an impeccable pantry and a knack for perfect pancakes. Service is unhurried in the best way: attentive without hovering, warm without script. Quality shows up on every plate. This is a breakfast-first kind of place, and it shines brightest in the morning. The classics are the headliners—hotcakes that are fluffy yet satisfying, waffles with that crisp-edged, custardy middle, and all the golden, butter-kissed comforts of a true American breakfast. On my latest visit, my wife ordered the huevos rancheros: a sunburst of eggs, salsa, and tortillas that balanced heat, acidity, and richness in every forkful. I went straight for the Blue Willow Classic eggs—simple on paper, irresistible in practice. Perfectly cooked eggs, well-seasoned sides, and portions that say “you won’t be hungry anytime soon.” Both dishes were clean-plate good. What really sets Blue Willow apart is its human warmth. Conversations hum, coffee cups refill themselves (or seem to), and nobody rushes you out the door. It’s where you come to exhale, to plan the day, or to decide you don’t need many plans at all. Pro tip: leave a few extra minutes for the little gift shop up front. It is gloriously stocked with things you absolutely do not need—and I guarantee you’ll buy more than one of them.

One of the greatest let downs. I've lived in Tucson for about 3 years now and everyone has told me to try this place. My mom and I were having a girl's day and we figured this would be a great place for lunch. I loved the ease of getting on their waitlist online. The gift shop and decor was on point.

But the Service.... the service was absolutely terrible.

We were sat promptly and the waitress took our order. And then we waited... and waited... I figured its busy. Maybe they have a lot of to go orders and the kitchen is backed up. But then I noticed that about 5 tables who were all sat after us had their meals brought out within about 15-20 minutes and were already leaving. We had order the Tostada and a Blacked chicken sandwich similar meals as the other patrons.

Finally our waitress (who in that 40 minute interim never checked in despite empty beverage glasses) came over and said the kitchen must have lost our order. That happens. I get it. She apologized and assured us that she would push our order to the top. Another 15 minutes go past and finally our order comes out.

And it's wrong...

I had added chicken to my salad, there was no chicken. For my mom, she got a chicken salad sandwich. We had not eaten yet for the day and we did not want to any longer for our food so we ate it. My mom was bummed with the chicken salad. She said she had a craving for chicken, bacon, and swiss. While the chicken salad sandwich was good, it was not want she wanted. They also forgot my mother's salad dressing which we asked twice for and never got. As well as refills on ice tea and water.

The tostada salad was good; it was not amazing and definitely needed a protein which is why I had added chicken to the first place.

What really bothered me was our waitress. She made very passive aggressive comments towards us. Upon telling her that the chicken salad sandwich was not what we had ordered she said "oh don't worry, it will cost the same on the bill. But since you didn't get your chicken on your salad, I will remove that."

Again, I know mistakes like this happen in a restaurant, but there was no ownership or really any true attempt to make it right. When we asked to speak with a manager, again we were blown off. I had hardly explained the situation to the manager, before she cut me off, grabbed our bill off the table, and said she would give us 50 percent off our bill.

Finally, as we were ready to leave. The waitress has to make another snark remark. "Oh I see my Manager took even more money off the bill..."

Yes, she did. Took off more money off our bill for food that we did not order after waiting nearly an hour.

I am upset with this place not because they made us wait or mixed up the order, but the attitude we received as it was happening. A simple "Hey I am sorry that this happened. Let me do something to make this right." There was no attempts to make this right.

So yea, we won't be back. I know it won't matter to them because they amazing recommendations and good reviews. I am really jealous of those who had a positive experience because I had been looking forward to...
