Let me tell you something... my grandpa is well known in my family to mean really good carnitas but even HE had to admit that this place is REALLY FREAKING DELICIOUS!!!
I ordered a pound of carnitas to take home for my grandpa and I. We both ate 5 tacos each and STILL had enough carnitas to last us another meal. The dish came with limes, three types of salsas with one of them being a guacamole type and one made of chipilin chili with oil. It also had some sort of cabbage tomato, onions thing which I'm personally not a fan (I prefer only cilantro and onions only added on to my tacos) and of course, it came with tortillas. Like a good stack. I'm pretty sure (about 80%) that the tortillas are hand made. They have a taste and smell that says hand made but don't count me on it. STILL perfectly made and cooked to perfection. This little hidden gem should be a lot more busy than it was at 1pm but my guess is because people don't know how delicious this place is. Now if you've never really had carnitas, there is two camps. The Mixta, which is carnitas mixed with the fattier, juicer portion of the pork. Then there is Carnitas Only which like its name, means only the meat. Personally I like just the Carnitas Only but I did ask to get the crispier bits of the meat because I (again personal choice) like a little crunchiness to my carnitas. Over all I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this place. They even have a drive through window that is meant for...
Read moreIn South Tucson, to most there are only two options for carnitas, if you're a local. And none in Tucson. For the cabeza taco, El Michoacano is the best I've had since the market in Holland, MI closed almost 20 years ago. Their carnitas, with skin, stomach and meat is great. Not sure which is better.
Btw, Google kinda sucks. They ask me what I'd recommend: Birria, street tacos, pulled pork, or Pig's Trotters. Weird.
I'd recommend tacos. Not sure why they'd be called "street" tacos. It is mexican food. May e they could also add carnitas. Hmm.
Bonus, the people who are compelled to say street tacos probably use the term "side-hustle", not understanding that is what people come up with to survive and often not something you'd hear about on...

The 2 pound to-go package of carnitas that we ordered were perfectly seasoned, meticulously clean (free of gristle) and very well served (comes with corn tortillas, pico de gallo/cabbage mix, limes, chile oil, green tomatillo/avocado salsa, and red salsa). They also have birria, hielitos, and a variety of other desserts on the menu that we will be back to try. You can eat there under the huge ramada or order to-go. Definitely our new go-to for deliciousness! Thank you Carnitas El Michoacano (near Old Nogales Highway and...
