This place is a hidden gem... Or so we thought. Anniversary date that didn't disappoint! Classy, tasteful, stylish, delicious and memorable! What else can one ask for when a special day celebration is at hand.
Decor: you are greeted at the entrance by a soft pink colored door on a black wall–that's a tasteful color combination. The interior was just a tastefully dressed inblack and white theme, with a touch of golden accents all throughout. Big mirrors, crystal chandeliers... You get the point.
Atmosphere: the mood is set with classy colors that are complimented by instrumental music that was just the right volume: not too loud as to having to talk loud to your date, not too quiet so that you hear the conversation of the table next to you. Dress code of servers makes one feel like royalty, who is served by a butler from 1900s. Classy!
Service: one of the best, if not the best, service in town! Our server was TC. Talk about professional! This young man sets the bar high. His ability to paint the menu in front of your eyes will make one want to try things you didn't know that you wanted to. Knowledgeable, patient and articulate (a lost art of service IMO). If you had the pleasure of this young man serve on you, you know exactly what I'm taking about. His recommendations for the main course were on point, complimented by a proper drink of choice made this dining experience to remember for years to come!
Food/beverages: Speaking of drinks. The bitter Espresso Martini is the best we've ever had anywhere, not only in Oklahoma, but throughout US and even from other counties we have visited. We had other drinks as well: old fashioned and champagne–all of which just added to the amazing dining experience. For the main course we decided to try table side Vero Alfredo. The presentation table side of Parmigiano Reggiano wheel set on fire with brandy and buttet is an experience in itself. The taste of the in house made pasta cooked in minimal, yet tasteful, ingredients, preserved the flavor when combined with fire melted cheese. For proteins we have ordered chicken and grilled octopus. Just by looking at a food presentation, one gets a sense that a knowledgeable chef is running the kitchen! Chicken had a crispy fried skin on the outside and a succulent center. Love seafood? Then grilled lobster is a must try! I've had octopus before, but not like this. Super tender, grilled to perfection giving it a smokey flavor with a juicy, non rubbery, center. Both of the proteins were sitting on a so-slightly drizzled pesto sauce, garnished by bits of greenery. Presentation was on point! Now, desert! By this time both of us were pretty full. However, I was glad we didn't skip out on the desert. Tiramisu at Prossimo is the best we have had. Light, fluffy, airy with shavings of real chocolate. Combine that with a Bitter Espresso Martini and it is hard to imagine that a place in Italy itself can taste better. Price: intentionally, I mention it at the end. It is not cheap, but you get what you paid for–experience! It is simple as that!
Extremely happy with Prossimo Restorante on every single aspect of dining out! If you are ready for a royal experience, go...
Read moreI went with my wife for our anniversary as a special occasion as we don't really eat any place that costs more than 25 dollars a plate. When we walked in there was a woman who appeared to do some sort of business at the bar with a laptop out which turned out to be the manager. Not exactly a bad thing but given the atmosphere the restaurant is going for it was rather jarring. We started with the mozzarella which we were told was made out of Wisconsin cheese curds, not Italian buffalo milk. I specify that because they only told us 25 times that the restaurant was traditional southern Italian cooking which that mozzarella was most certainly not. Anyways, the mozzarella was decent, they add a bit too much salt which is a problem that runs contrary to what I had with my entree. I got the Pappardelle Bolognese which the menu describes as a "meat sauce" which couldn't be further from the truth because it was more of the consistency of meat soup. The sauce was so watery I couldn't believe it on top of being extremely bland. The meat within the sauce was soggy rather than tender, it felt like eating wet sandwich bread. I have been told by the manager that it wasn't "up to standard" but after checking the review pictures I can't help but worry that is the standard. I have made Bolognese from scratch using san marzano tomatoes, passata, tomato paste, sofrito, hand made pasta, ect. I say that to say I know what a decent Bolognese is supposed to look and taste like and it wasn't even close. My wife got the Alfredo which admittedly wasn't that bad but was definitely more for show. They begin the process using brandy which was supposed to "bring balance due to the sweetness of the brandy balancing out all the salt in the cheese" but my wife said the brandy was clashing with the reggiano (they say the alcohol is cooked off but that isn't true even with the brandy being on fire in the cheese wheel. I'm not going to bore you with the science but there is probably 25 percent of the alcohol left behind.) which brought it to a 6/10 for her. Manager asked us how the food was and I told her my food tasted watery like they added too much pasta water and the meat tasted soggy rather than tender. My wife said her food was decent to the manager. I told the manager I wasn't looking for the meal to be free or even to be remade, but since they were looking for feedback I was happy to give it. Manager offered to remake the Bolognese, I declined the offer and they took the Bolognese off the ticket anyways which was nice of them. We were also offered free dessert for our anniversary but we declined that as well. Overall, we will never be back. I just cant imagine paying 5 dollars a plate for the food I got and being satisfied...
Read moreWe ate here 11/22/19 for a late lunch. At 1:15 it kind felt like were just ready to be closed for lunch to prepare or dinner. The initial person that sat us friendly, & in general so was our waitress, but she seemed to be focused her phone rather than us or the food that was prepared.
We started out with the Calamari, as we both like Calamari & me in particular like to order & compare it to other restaurants. As mentioned early about the waitress & or kitchen staff, when the plate was brought out & we took our first bite of the dish the food was cool, so if anyone knows anything about fried, breaded food that if it sits for too long it doesn't have the best flavor regardless of what food was fried. I will also say, that for Calamari as an appetizer it is priced a little high, especially when there is some very good Calamari being served out there.
For drinks, I had a Moscow Mule because that is my sort of go to drink & am curious how each bartender makes it. I will say I did like my Mule & did order another one.
For the Main courses, my companion ordered the Caesar salad to start, & I will say that it had an interesting presentation that I had not seen before. It was brought out in 2 wedges, so you cut into it to eat it. Very nice presentation & the Caesar dressing was good but not enough of it. She also had the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli & really enjoyed it.
I had the Shellfish Risotto, for a couple of reasons, but I do like Risotto when done well & it something you don't see on every menu, Italian or French. I will say that there were a lot of different types of shellfish presented & that was a pleasant surprise. The Risotto was creamy & flavored very well & will say one of the better Risotto's that I have had.
To finish up, there were some very good things about this restaurant but maybe a couple of things to improve on, especially since Tulsa is a very competitive place for restaurants, & particularly very excellent Italian Restaurants. I have 3 or 4 favorites, because time & again the service is wonderful & consistent as well as the food, regardless if you eat wood fired pizza, Salmon Piccata, Chicken Cacciatore, or any other classic Italian dish or a new take on a dish. I plan to go back for dinner with another person, because the food, other than the Calamari was pretty good, & hopefully maybe a little better service. Although I want to give it at least 4 stars I can't quite do that, but if the experience is better I will...
