I never imagined that getting my master’s degree while managing student debt would make me a “suspicious person” in the eyes of Starbucks. But that’s exactly how I was treated.
I am a 42-year-old woman, working hard to build a better future. Since I can’t afford WiFi at home, I sometimes park away from the Starbucks building to use the connection for my coursework. I don’t disturb anyone. I don’t loiter. I sit quietly in my car, just trying to stay afloat in a world that’s already difficult enough.
Yet, instead of being treated with basic human decency, the staff here decided to call the police on me. For what? Being a student? Not fitting their image of a "typical customer"? I don’t know what assumptions they made, but it was enough for them to involve law enforcement.
The reality is, this is bigger than me. It’s about the way businesses like Starbucks choose to profile people based on appearances, assumptions, and biases. It’s about how people who struggle financially—who are doing their best to survive—are treated as problems rather than human beings.
If Starbucks wants to pride itself on being a welcoming community space, they need to take a hard look at how they treat people who don’t fit into their corporate mold. Because right now, they’re sending a clear message: if you don’t have money to burn, you...
Read moreThis is the only Starbucks amoung 7 or 8 I can visit in Turlock and Modesto that can get my coffee drink correct. Since the label on my cup is always correct I don't understand what the problem is. I'm becoming very frustrated with Starbucks and recently heard their prices are going up AGAIN. They're going to price themselves out of the market. I've been a customer since they opened their first store in Redwood City in the Bay Area (over 30 years ago) and have always bought the same coffee drink. I've watched their quality and service become progressively worse and their prices skyrocket over the past 15 years. They've simply become to corporate. They need some competition to make them care again about customer service and fair prices. I shouldn't have to consistently go back through drive-thru or into the store to have it remade. I've tried nicely talking to management and calling corporate only to get insincere reactions and excuses well worded by the Starbucks legal staff. Consequently, I seldom go now and only to this location and one in Redwood City I'm pretty sure will...
Read moreTHE ABSOLUTE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I came in to get a hot Americano with cream. After the guy took my order I stood around for 10 min waiting. No one was ordering in the lobby, one girl was making drinks for drive thru only and the other was cleaning and restocking. Neither girl acknowledged me. The guy at the register finally told the one with pink in her hair to make my drink. I grabbed it to find it was room temperature. I tasted to verify, yup not warm just room temp. I requested a remake which was not received kindly. The guy and this pink haired girl started to argue over which spicket had hotter water. Then she went back to restocking. I then asked the cashier guy " what's going on? Do these girls hate their job or just me?" He said "sorry" and that was all. I requested a refund and left. As a business owner I would be floored if my employees were treating...
