Visited this quaint, well worn dining establishment on a sunny spring morning at the beginning of April. A party of two, my father and I were greeted by a spry middle aged gentleman with a southern drawl and a friendly smile who took or name and informed of a short few minutes wait to be seated as every table was occupied when we arrived. When we were called, we were told to pick any available open table. A wall table with two chairs is where we took our seats. After perusing the menus and placing our orders (I got scrambled eggs, grits, side of sliced tomatoes 🍅, all you can eat biscuits and coffee) then we waited. I thought it rather odd that even though we were seated rather close to our fellow diners you couldn’t really hear their conversations. Perhaps it’s the table manners of the predominantly native southern crowd or just the fact that we were an anomaly in the room that morning. That being said, the wait was not long. I’m guessing 10-12 minutes later the food arrived. In the middle of the table went a plate of some of the softest, flakiest, tasty but rather small biscuits for the table to share. 4 different types of sweet condiment accoutrements are on the tables alongside the salt, pepper, syrup, and sweeteners for your coffee should you so choose. The scrambled eggs were soft to medium set. The amount of butter in the grits was a little too much of a good thing but being able to see the cook from where I was seated I knew that the preparation was a labor of love. The service was excellent as one would expect from the type of establishment you would find in a John Grisham novel set in the mid 1900’s. I could come back in ten years and would know exactly what to expect when I arrived.

Went the Waysider for my first time. My Brother lives in Tuscaloosa and has been going there for years. He knows the owners, family and servers there. He hadn't been there in a couple of years due to health issues. Everyone remembered him and were so glad to see him. He introduced me to everyone. We had the best breakfast that morning. He had pancakes and sausage. I had country ham, red eye gravy, biscuits, eggs and grits. Oh my goodness it was delicious! We told them we were coming back later for lunch, and we did. It was SO awesome! Best fried pork chops and creamed corn ever. So worth it. I will be back. Thank you ladies.

Great hotcakes and biscuits however, the steak is nothing but gristle... Unfortunately, they are struggling to keep up. Arrived at 0935 seated at 1100, and was told it was a 30 minute wait. At the time of this review I'm still waiting on my food at 1155!!!!!! Our drinks have been empty for over 30 minutes. I love supporting family owned busines but they need a lesson in service and running a restaurant. They would be better off hiring a manager from McDonald's to educate them in operation and how to manage a business!!! None of my family will be back. If Broken Egg is too busy you're better off going to the waffle house!

ZERO STARS! I cannot believe my sheer shock and disappointment in our service today. The server should not have a job after this experience. After we waited for a table for 6 (plenty of open tables) we sat down and waited for menus. The server came back after a while and brought menus. I asked could we order drinks and she said she would be back. She came back after a while and we ordered (we went ahead and ordered food and drinks since we saw how long things were taking for these small tasks). After 20 minutes I saw her pass by and politely asked if we could get our coffee. The lady literally YELLED at me in hysteria that she was doing her best and she was DONE with it all. She went in SCREAMING in the back yelling and causing a scene and abandoned all her tables. A busboy and another lady from the back took over the service which was excellent from then forward. It completely ruined our whole breakfast. My grandmother was in town who I see once a year and it was during this special time together we were all in shock as was the rest of the restaurant. My mom left her over a 20% tip for literally doing nothing but ruin our $85 meal. I wish I had known I would have personally made sure she didn’t get a cent of this money and it went to the people who waited on us. This lady should absolutely be ashamed of herself and should not be servicing the general public. We will NOT be back and I would advise that unless you want to get yelled at and not served no matter how long you’ve been sitting there that you look elsewhere. SUCH a shame we have been supporting this business for at least 30 years that I know of and go for the Bama atmosphere and history. The server came out as we were finishing up as if nothing had happened but we were all too scared to even make eye contact. No apology from anyone which made...

We came in for the Mizzou v Bama game and got this place as a recommendation from a cousin. It was… PRIME recommendation material I mean let me pop off for a second.

First, and foremost the service was fantastic. Attentive, good recommendations, coffee cup never went cold or empty. Everyone was friendly and all the staff spoke to our table and made us feel incredibly welcome.

Second, food was on point. Had grits in Georgia - terrible. Grits here? Dynamite. Coffee, biscuits and eggs were perfect. 4 of us got full plates with more than enough food (and coffees) for $48 which is another major W.

Third, they talked football with us in a delightful and gracious way - as road fans NOT a given. I will DIE ON A HILL that this place deserved all the business it can get and the servers should be tipped well. The theme was very Alabama football, and I hope they lose today, but otherwise cream-of-the-crop, A1 southern-hospitality. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion however, if you left a 1-star review… bless your heart but grow...
