What an unfortunate experience trying to support our local Nigerian business. I will Never go back there again. Ordered amala, they brought pounded yam and said we don’t have amala. They served moi moi that was warm on the outside but frozen in a sealed pack and said, since we opened the pack we could not get a refund. Jollof rice combo means jollof and fried rice even though the menu says nothing about fried rice. Appetizers was served after the meal. Waiter was rude and arrogant. You get up to get your own water. I have never experienced anything as despicable as this. We have to do better as Nigerians.

Dear business owner. Every business learns from challenges. The best way to deal with negative feedback is to understand the true needs of your customers who in some cases drives 45 mins to spend their hard earned money at your establishment and figure out a way to exceed their expectations. If you do that, you are able keep, retain and grow your business beyond your wildest dreams. Please do ask your customers to reward incompetence and low quality service just because we are fellow Nigerians. We Nigerians chose you to dine at your place, we made the commitment to support your business, please do not disappoint us. If you read your reviews over the past 5 years, you will see a consistent theme. Try working on it or ask for an independent evaluation. Take their feedback seriously and you will be the best...

The place is not bad. It's clean and the food is great, but the wait time for a to go order is unacceptable, even when you call to order in advance. I have called in my order in advance on a number of occasions only to be waiting at least an extra 20 minutes upon arrival. In addition, their prices are higher than average for the portions that they give. They charge $18 for a small container of jollof rice with fish when other African restaurants charge an average of $10-15 for the same meal but with more generous portions. If they could work on those three things, they could easily be rated 5 stars.

Update: I didn't patronize the business in over a year because I was fed up with slow and lousy service. I was really hoping the management and service improved, but it's worse. The girl taking orders spent more than 10 minutes on a personal phone call while customers were waiting. I called my order in 45 minutes in advance and it wasn't ready when I arrived so I had to wait an extra 20 minutes. Their pricing has also increased despite the awful service. They are not even savvy enough to put the business on Uber Eats, Grub Hub or Door Dash after 4 years so that customers don't have to deal with them directly. The business is poorly run and the owner and staff are a...

Service was just terrible. If you are reading this and are Nigerian I’m sure you are used to bad customer service from some of our people. Well this was next level. I don’t think I have ever experienced it this bad.

The eye rolling was one thing I didn’t understand how is it that every time we asked a question that was the immediate reaction from the lady out front.

We came in to spend our money and you act as if you are doing us a favor. When we arrived we didn’t realize you had to come up to place your food order. When we noticed everyone doing it we followed the example. You stand there and she doesn’t acknowledge you until you speak to her. Alright I can deal with that to a level. But everything from there went down hill. I asked for fork eye roll and it took forever. Our food came out at different times not all together. We asked amala and got iyan fine. We asked for jollof rice combo come to find out that was jollof rice and fried rice on the same plate fine we can manage it. Then come to the worst moi-moi I ever had another patron returned theirs. We tried to return ours and she refused. At that point I had had enough.

We put up with the terrible service but the end I just couldn’t hold in my opinions about the experience and the lady’s...

Giving this spot a 4.4. Ordered takeout with good and quick service. Had a craving for jollof rice, egusi, beef suya and sweet plantains. Have to say, almost everything was delicious. It hit the spot for good Nigerian food, but my only reservation was the jollof rice. It tasted burnt and was a tad stale or old perhaps. It was the least favorite of my order. Sad because I was really looking forward to enjoying it. But on a better note, the beef suya was perfectly cooked and oh so spicy with sliced cabbage and red onions, which I loved! I also like how it was served. The egusi was really tasty with stock fish and I asked for goat meat. The sweet plantains were mouthwatering and juicy! Perfection!! I am not African, but definitely ate like one that day. And yes, I ate everything together..lol. I certainly enjoyed the pounded yam, which I dipped in the egusi soup. Yum!!! My only comment to management other than please don't serve burnt food is, please do something about the air circulation. Walking in, the restaurant smelled stale. This is off-putting and can Overall good local African restaurant and staff was friendly. But certainly room for improvement.

Excellent suya. Closest thing to the suya man i have tasted in 35 years. Pepper soup was spot on as well, just as Nne used to make it. Glad i found this place. I skipped it for a long time because i had no confidence that they could make proper suya. If you are Nigerian and looking for suya and not shiskabab skip Abuja in Union or Odabro’s in East Orange and come here. Don't let the pictures fool you. You will not be disappointed. It even comes wrapped in news paper 🤣. Say Fred sent you. 😂👍🏽

This is a place i frequent. Their suya and jollof rice is good , the service is poor, zero the they are not always honest, i decided to try their shawarma they gave me a wrap with hotdog and carrot in it. See below the picture. How did carrot make its way into a shawarma? It’s very oily, with mayonnaise and ketchup. If you want shawarma please go to the Arabian restaurants in Patterson. And i advice they go their also to take lessons to make it. Please stick to Amal’s and jollof rice.
