Black Watch Pub — Restaurant in Upland

This place was fun for the novelty of going to a British pub and eating British foods, but it's not a place that we will necessarily go back to.

We arrived around 6:30ish on a Friday evening. It wasn't really thatttt busy (although it got busier while we were there), but still our food took 30ish minutes to get to us. Our server was apologetic and kept checking up on us. She had warned us that the meat pies would take about 25 minutes, but I would assume our other food should have come out earlier...

Wings - These were good! We got the mild and it was a nice buffalo mild spiciness. There was a good amount of meat on them, too. We didn't want fries with it, so we asked if there was any substitute we could do. They said they could give a few extra wings instead, so that was great! At $11, it was good value :)

Fish & chips - Fish were a good size and had a nice batter around them. Good with the tartar sauce, but a bit boring without. The fries were actually the biggest disappointment. The waitress highly recommended them, but we were really disappointed. Nice size and texture, but they were dry and flavorless and not really worth finishing. At $19, this was sadly overpriced.

Steak & mushroom meat pie - This was good! Nice portion size and yummy taste. Mashed potatoes also good. And this will sound crazy, but a highlight was actually the peas. They were just so pleasantly nice hahaha. The whole combo was good...

The food is some of the best I’ve ever had.

The bangers were on point. The meat pies were creamy and delicious. The shepherds pie. Oh my God, the shepherds pie. I have regularly eaten shepherd’s pies at pubs for over 15 years and this was hands down the best one I’ve ever eaten. I needed to shake the chef’s hand it was so good.

You really can’t go wrong with the menu. Scotch eggs, gravy fries (we bought more of those to go), the savory sausages - we had to go here twice in a row and we still haven’t managed to hit the whole menu but we will most definitely be back.

Oh and the service? Stephanie told us the first night that if we thought we might not arrive until after the kitchen closes, call her and she’d put our phone order in to the kitchen and have it READY FOR US WHEN WE ARRIVE.

Music was great too; not what you’d expect from a British pub but it was a real solid 90s playlist, including a wide range between pop, reggae, rap, R&B, etc.

Just got here ordered 1 drink and lady started making drink and all of a sudden. Said she can't serve me I rarely drink for the record and have not been to this bar in months only been here about twice to 3 max saying last time I was here I was falling over and being routy and rude which I k ow I have not because I only drink enough to to get a buzz not drunk or to get hang over she is mistaken by someone else I'm a whole different person I don't get how she confused me with someone else or she had something against me would like to speak to a manager about this because I know how much I drink I like to be aware of myself and want I'm doing I remember the the whole night the last time I was here months ago and I never at all kept falling and being rowdy I did go outside and sit down to sober up. And I still remember all of it so this lady was out right rude to me even though it wasn't me show me the video of it I just wanted 1 drink wasn't even planning on...
