From the moment I walk into this restaurant, to my departure - always with half of the meal, packaged-up for the next 'happy meal' at home, I find myself immersed in an unequalled atmosphere that makes me proud to be of Irish heritage! The boys with the brogues that I could use a translator for, watch their soccer from the adjoining pub portion of proprietor Sean Cawley's shining gem, while music ranging from tunes from the Emerald Isle to Steely Dan, Steve Miller or thousands of other selections that are magically contained in the jukebox (are they still called that)? The ambiance and energy - the friendliness and optimism - is infectious, and I seem to carry it with me, along with my cherished left overs. And, that is what my raves are about. Cherished leftovers!! Cawley's offers the finest food around, with choices ranging from home-made soups, creative specials and authentic Irish fare, to memory-jogging comfort-food meatloaf and mashed potatoes or open faced freshly roasted turkey with all the fixins', to breakfast served all day (the Irish breakfast dish and the American version - my favorite -cannot fit on one plate, for the eggs, three meats, home fries, toast AND pancakes)!! The corned beef special stands s good two inches high! And, then there is the Prime Rib!! What seals the deal, and places this restaurant at the top of my Best Of list is the most humble and consistent and considerate (and almost insane lol) pricing for the oh-so-abundant meals offered. I would happily pay the price on the menu for just the half of the meal I was taking home!!! I am not a salesman. I do not posses the ability to hard-sell, or exaggerate - I could never sell used cars. If I DO believe in something (years and years ago, during Tupperware parties I would have, to get all of us young moms together, I often sold more of the product than the rep running the party. I truly believed in Tupperware - still do - and felt compelled to share with my young moms friends the value and benefits from owning one (or eight or ten) piece that I enjoyed. I don't believe Cawley's needs a marketing plan. Their reputation has been of only the highest caliber, for decades - long before my first Brunch invite there. But, if something (or someone) is as positive as this great place, I believe it deserves a...
Read moreWhat can I say about this place? A lot! You would not believe the out-of-this-world kitchen that this hidden treasure serves up from its menu! The environment is cheerfully infectious, with laughter ringing from every corner, making it impossible not to smile the moment you step through the door. The establishment is robust with patrons, and from the food alone, I can see why – the bar is alive with so many diversities of people, all having an awesome time. And let's talk about the chicken tenders for a sec – while a simple choice, they are absolutely killer and worthy of your cluck-buck. Seriously, they elevate the humble chicken tender into an art form. The entertainment on the weekends is second-to-none, as I've been here before and had an absolute blast! Order a drink from Chris or any of the staff and get it exactly as you ask for it. Absolut martini, extra extra dry, rocks on the side with olives? Nailed it. Take out? Yup. Beer or food to go. If you feel like having an awesome experience, you simply CANNOT go wrong here. This staff cares about the customer. The food, like those mind-blowing chicken tenders, is like it's homemade with love, and in this crazy inflated world of economics, the price is honestly hard to beat - and it's ABSOLUTELY worth your hard-earned dollar, because as you'll see, leaving here you'll likely say, "Oh, I will definitely be coming back to do this whole thing AGAIN!" And you will. The secret? Good old-fashioned great service, great people, stellar food, and ear-candy all night...
Read moreCawley's is an iconic Irish establishment located in the heart of the Irish community within the Highland Park section of Upper Darby Township. There are two main areas inside - the bar area and the restaurant area. Although, dining is available at any table or at the bar itself. The restaurant section was recently renovated. The renovation (during COVID-19) has given the dining area a fresh new look while providing more dining space. I believe the bar in the restaurant section was modified to provide some of this extra space..
Smoking is no longer permitted.
Cawley's has daily menu item specials including dinner entrees. While the soups also rotate, when the Cream of Potato soup is on the soup menu, it is a must-have. Wing lovers should also experience Cawley's wings - and if you are lucky, Jerk Wings will be on the special menu. Recently they have been appearing on Wednesdays. Ham and Cabbage is featured on Tuesdays but could flow over to Wednesday or Thursday (no worries as the meats are delivered fresh every week).
Overall, Cawley's is a great spot for family and friends. They make you feel welcome and everyone from the staff to the regulars are friendly and inviting - a relaxing place to eat, drink, and...
