I am fairly new to the Des Moines area, but what I do enjoy is the small town charm in a big city, which includes finding a local bakery to get fresh bread. I found this charming bakery named Big Sky Bread near my home and finally found what I've been searching for! The parking lot is to the left of the bakery, and when you enter, there are a few racks of bread loaves, homemade granola, local jam/honey, and pastries. I tried the Italian loaf, German rye sliced bread, their very own pop tarts, and cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. I forgot to take a picture, but they were all very beautifully made. The owner/cashier Terry was kind and let me know they also have a booth in the Downtown Farmer's Market in May. I am excited to return again for a restock in the near future....
Read moreBought these 4 Dutch Letters from this place at HY-VEE and they were absolutely horrible, They were as hard as a brick, completely dried out and the amount of pastry was way too much for the little bit of filling they had, you had to search to even see it. In the pic it looks like it is a solid circle of filling but it is a hollow circle, they were terrible. The second pic shows how much of the pastry I had to peel of to make them taste anything remotely like a good Dutch Letter is suppose to taste.
