POISONED ME WITH ALLERGY. This location has an incompetent waitress named Sara . Sara should not be an employee here or anywhere that requires hospitality or serving . I have celiacs disease and cannot have any gluten at all. I ordered a gluten free breakfast burrito with sara and told her of my gluten allergy and she assured me she marked it . 15 minutes went by and she served my coworkers food before telling me she forgot to let me know they were out of gluten free wraps. That was the first weird sign , but I entertained it , understood, and asked her what else I should get That would be gluten free because of my allergy. She then told me to get the avocado test and said there’s a good gluten free bun . I submitted an order for the avocado toast, reminded her of my allergy .
She then served me the food when ready, and said here is your avocado toast , gluten free with an allergy . I took 2 bites of the meal before receiving a sharp migraine , once I felt very sick quickly , I went to the front only to have been told by the manager that I was served a normal Ezekiel English muffin instead of the gluten free .
Sara’s excuse was “I thought that was the gluten free one” . She was inconsiderate , unapologetic, and did not seem to care that she just completely ruined my work day and days to come . I have a severe allergy”
Sara should be removed from this work place , I have connections within the food industry in Des Moines and will try my best to let others know that this waitress cannot be trusted , and that this location is unsafe for those with allergies .
How can management hire such an incompetent and irresponsible worker ? That is the real...
Read moreI never write reviews but I've had too many frustrating experiences here to let it slide. The food tastes good but it's WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what it is and for the service. The base price for the "signature bowls" starts between $17 - $20. After selecting your bowl, they have you select a temp for the meat to be cooked at and then require you to choose from a list of bases. With the exception of rice, every base (e.g. sweet potato rounds, quinoa, veggies, etc.) adds a $1 upcharge. By the time you complete your order with all your selections as prompted, you're paying around $20 per person. It's almost always the case that I then show up to the restaurant to pick up my food and something's wrong about the order. For example, the bowl I ordered today standardly comes with avocado which was surely counted when determining the price of that menu item. There was no avocado but I was still charged the full price. Oftentimes it's the case that they don't actually have the base I selected so they just substitute something else that they decide, at which point I end up paying extra just to not get what I selected in the first place.
Bottom line: The food tastes good and they're pretty quick at making everything, but it's SO NOT WORTH the price or driving away frustrated and feeling taken advantage of. Save yourself the frustration and...
Read moreAs a loyal patron of Protein House, I've always appreciated their offerings, but recent experiences have left me quite dismayed. On 4/12, I ordered a muscle builder and a portobello sandwich, only to find them both disappointingly prepared – the meat overcooked and barely edible, and my chicken burnt through while the portobello mushroom remained uncooked. Despite this, I remained hopeful and returned today, eager to support the business. However, the quality of the food was even worse. The muscle builder sandwich suffered from the same overcooked meat, despite specifying preferences, and my attempt to try something new with the sexy salmon bowl was met with disappointment – dry salmon, soggy and overly seasoned mixed veggies, and aged quinoa with a discernible odor. As someone who frequently prepares quinoa, I can confidently say it was far from fresh. Regrettably, this experience has led us to conclude that we won't be returning. Given the prices charged, we expected a higher...
