The Hotel was really nice! The people at front desk were very friendly and helpful. The people cleaning the rooms were respectful and did a great job. My only complaint would be, the breakfast area. It was clean but the Hispanic lady that was keeping food and coffee seemed to have a bad few days August 11th and 12th. 2023 She snached a ketchup bottle from a table without even asking the people at the table if they were through with it. Just said, "I need this" in a gruff voice. I watched as those people were quite disturbed as we were. We didn't have any ketchup bottles so she didn't get to snach stuff off out table, thank God. The eggs, bacon, sausage, French toast and potatoes were good if you could get them. Most of the time it was left empty. People would inquire when breakfast would be ready and the reply was, "We're having construction going on so I don't know" after a few minutes, and after that remark she went in the kitchen and got more food but took her sweet time putting it out then proceeded to chop the eggs into quarter size pieces apparently to make it last longer? When she finished, she told everyone in a raised voice that that was the last of the breakfast. That was at 8:30am. Everyone rushed to get food. The food trays were empty very quickly as everyone was told that's all there is. In about 10 minutes, she went back to the kitchen and mysteriously found more food but again, after taking her sweet time putting it out, she again announced, "that's all there is" in the same gruff voice. I did hear her speak and that is not her normal voice. No coffee still. It happened a third time but this time after she put it out, breakfast was over and she quickly took everything back up and carted it away. Some one at the front desk area took the coffee pot to the kitchen and refilled it, thank God. Saturday August 12th, same deal again but this time, she blamed second shift people?? Sunday morning, we checked out August 13th 2023 and there was very little food out and the same girl was managing the food and coffee. Seeing those quarter size pieces of eggs in a mountain, it looks very very unappetizing. One thing she didn't consider is, people will get a portion of eggs and the portions are the same size in their plate even if they are quarter size. Some people we noticed, closed the lid and turned up their nose. We watched a few couples come down when the food was out and left in quest of breakfast. Some were checking out without breakfast because there was none and that my friend leaves a lasting impression and conversation to other people. I come to this hotel because it is a very very nicely run, clean and friendly place. The other is the great breakfast they provide. This trip, not so good on breakfast and that my friend starts out your day. Other people did come out of the kitchen Saturday to refil orange juice, milk and other containers. Guess they knew people were unhappy with this other girls performance and attitude. Maybe she takes the left overs home. That may explain why shewas bringing out all the food after breakfast was closed and quickly took it back up with everything else. There are other nice hotels with great breakfast options but I will give this place, one more chance but if this same girl is keeping things filled, that will be the last time. My wife always liked their "scones" they had. They were still an option last year but not this year so all she wanted was some eggs and bearly got some Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday as we left. I don't deal with people with attitude issues and once I've had a bad experience, I remember like everyone else. In closing, the hotel is the best and so are the people who run it. Clean and kept up. If you experience these same issues, please alert the front desk. I am sorry that I didn't but my wife would not let me because she said its embarrissing and lets just leave. She dosent like complaining and im sure that other customers here won't be back unfortunatly. Fill the containers before they are empty...
Read moreThis hotel is nice. It was relatively new when I stayed here in October of 2022. The rooms and common areas are stylishly appointed. The room was comfortable and quiet, with a large shower. The workout room was fairly well-equipped for a hotel and it was quite large. I stayed here because the hotel where I usually stay was full for a couple of days that week.
There are a couple of things that are worth mentioning to explain why I took off two stars -- these things were specific to me and to my situation, so they may not affect you at all, but you will have to judge that.
First, when I arrived, there was no one at the desk to check me in -- after a couple of minutes I went looking for someone and when I asked at the bar the gentleman serving drinks came up to help me. He was polite and helpful at that point, but this system didn't work well because he could not see the door.
Second, on two occasions I called to order room service where either no one answered or I was put on hold for long enough (5 minutes) that I hung up. If you don't mind walking downstairs, this probably wouldn't be an issue, but I decided to go somewhere else since I had to get dressed again anyway.
Third, there was no way to sit in the chair at work desk area in the room that could be considered to be acceptably ergonomic. I have a relatively slim waist (33") and hips but my butt just barely fit between the sides of the chair -- and the curve of the back made it so that I could not sit all the way back in the chair. I basically had to sit on the very edge of the chair while I was working on my computer. I'm sure that you could consider the chair to be stylish, but the cheapest desk chair would have been more functional and comfortable. I attached a picture of the chair.
Last thing that I need to mention is that there is a plastic (I think) cover over the drain in the shower and the shower head dripped throughout the night. At 2:30, I woke up and it sounded like someone out in the hall stacking dishes or something -- I thought that was odd until I went to the bathroom and realized that the sound was water dripping on that cover. It is hard to describe the sound, but that's what I thought it sounced like. It was not loud enough that it kept me up or bothered me, but it might make some...
Read moreWe stayed at the Revel Hotel in Urbandale during an Iowa State Fair weekend.||The location of the hotel is great, as there are many restaurants, shops, etc. within close proximity to the hotel. Downtown Des Moines is only about a 20-minute drive, so it was easy for us to get to the downtown farmer's market on Saturday morning, as well as the IA State Fair.||The hotel is only a couple of years old and is decorated very nicely. There is a really nice outdoor patio area. The hotel has a nice bar and some delicious signature cocktails, which we were able to take outside and enjoy on the patio.||The room was very clean and had some really nice "extra touches" such as a separate area for the toilet, a nightlight under the bathroom sink which was controlled by a wall switch, a lighted mirror in the bathroom area, and USB chargers on the bedside lamps. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows--which had both feather pillows as well as foam pillows.||The breakfast was very good and had both hot items such as bacon, pancakes, and eggs as well as yogurt, fruit, toast, etc. You would definitely not go away hungry. We also ordered a charcuterie board one evening of our stay as we just wanted to stay in our room and relax. It was amazing--easily the best charcuterie board that we have ever had.||In addition to all of the great things that I detailed above, the customer service was excellent. While all of the staff was friendly and courteous, the manager, Brian, was fantastic--he seemed to do it all--work the front desk, answer calls, act as the bartender, etc. He even attempted to help me with a problem with Booking.com. It was some of the best customer service that we have ever received at a hotel.||If you are looking for a beautiful hotel in a great location, look no further. It is going to be our "go to" hotel when...
