After a nice long cruise through the Twisted Sisters, we settled in Uvalde and found Jack's Steak House. There was plenty of parking for our big group of about 14 cars and they even gave us one of the private rooms for our big group. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating, given we were a huge group that came in without even a heads up. The restaurant itself is large, spacious, and has a rustic feel to it. The menu has a variety of food from soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, steaks and "favorites" platters. There is something for everyone. The food didn't even take that long to come out after we all ordered. However, here's where I have to start dinging them on stars. First of all, I ordered the Avocado Chicken Club sandwich with a side of onion rings. When I received my order, everything was a really good portion size except the chicken itself. I got a very small piece of grilled chicken breast that only fit on half of my sandwich (you can see the pictures for yourself). I even put it together and cut it in half and sure enough, half of my sandwich was all veggies. I didn't realize the waitress was behind me when I made the comment that "WOW, look how small that chicken breast is, it's only enough for half my sandwich", to which she immediately replied, "Oh no! Let me go and make sure you get another piece of chicken." Although I was surprised she heard me, i'm glad she took the initiative to resolve the issue. She even saw for herself and had a shocked look on her face. Taste-wise the sandwich was great, as were the onion rings, although I was hoping for more of the onion rings as well. My friends at the table were not as satisfied with their orders. One person ordered his steak medium rare and it came out medium well. Another ordered it medium and got it well done. Another got the wrong order completely. Needless to say, where Jack's lacked in food quality, they made up for in customer service. Personally I thought my chicken sandwich was delicious, and was even more satisfied when the other half of my chicken arrived. I understand that we were an unusually large party, and they did have great customer service, so I can understand some of the incorrect orders, but i'm still thinking of that little piece of chicken I got on my big...
Read moreEdit\Rant. May get a little long Went May 10th, 2025. I will try and be nice, but unhappy camper. Took my 88 year old mother, for Mother's Day dinner. Not a lot of places to choose from when it comes to nice sit down dinner, that is not Mexican Food. Walk in, maybe six people waiting for a table. 1 waiter and 1 bartender waiting tables. So already had me scared. What's in the kitchen? But... Hey as I've said. Not a lot of choices. Wait 15 minutes. Grabbed the family of 4. Next is an older couple. Wait another 15. Nothing... During this time people are coming and going because are not taking name and pretty much not saying anything to anybody. Just a 15 or 20 minutes. Says another waitress on way. She walks in and is oozing attitude. Probably pissed because called in. Understand. By this time I am really worried about quality of food and service. Just trying to give mother a enjoyable experience. Waiter that has been working tables alone with the help of the bartender comes and says it will be another 30 minutes but with a bit of attitude. I tell him there are open tables everywhere. With a bit more attitude he tells me but there is no waiters. Had to leave on the attitude. Which I might understand and the quality of everything else. Going to drop them to a 3. And I probably will not return. Sorry for the rant. It just tics me off that you can't have a nice sit down dinner in Uvalde.
Steak and shrimp were delicious. Ice tea was on point waitress was great. Overall very good experience. Will be back! Tried the chicken fried steak. Absolutely delicious. Great place. Must try if...
Read moreUnder-seasoned, underwhelming, and a bit overcooked.
The food for the seven people at our table came out at wildly different times, and some plates seemed very fresh, while others were lukewarm. 2 out of the 4 steaks were cooked great. Mine was cut unevenly and cooked to a nice medium rare on the thick half, while the thinner half of it was medium well. My friend's whole steak looked well done when it was also supposed to be med rare. They gladly took it back to make her a new one, but to me the new one looked a bit undercooked, more like rare than medium rare.
Both my steak and the beef and veggie soup seemed under-seasoned... The soup was quite nice after I added a decent amount of salt and pepper. The chicken dish with broccoli on top looked really nice and the one with bbq sauce was drowning in it and apparently pretty "meh," although I didn't taste either to say personally.
Service kind of matched the food, nothing to write home about but not the worst either. Perhaps it was an off night for the restaurant, but since we're just in town for a few days, I won't be back anytime soon...
