Breakfast on Dec 24, so my wife and I hit this restaurant for brunch while in Vallejo for my birthday. It was packed, but we were seated within 5 minutes and presented with coffee while we perused the menu. I was excited about cheese grits, and my Wife wanted the cinnamon biscuit with cream cheese frosting. We then ordered the Tex-Mex scramble and the pork chop breakfast. Seriously, MORE food than we thought and was better than expected... except the cold, lumpy cheese grits. Photos can't do the description properly, but 2 bites was all I could suffer. The scramble had to be 5-6 eggs with the appropriate mix-ins and potatoes, piled with cheese, cilantro, salsa, and black beans. Her 2 pork chops were enormous, and she could only eat a partial one, but she did eat her entire biscuit! The service was prompt until our food arrived, then almost non-existent as we had only the original of coffee and ZERO water to suffice until the bill was delivered. Yes, they were swamped with customers, but I feel they're used to it, so why stop?! Will I return? Maybe, but they have to fix the grits situation and offer better service once the food has been delivered.

Boy do I feel silly it took me five years to discover this place. If you like old-school diner style portions then this is the place for you. Great food in large portions are 2 things that really connect for me. One of those menus that has it all. Great breakfast all the way. The homemade biscuits are delightful. They have an excellent dessert bar, but I rarely have a room after I eat my meal. They make the best Vegetarian Benedict my girlfriend has had the chance to have. They also cook hash browns with just the right amount of crispy (I hate under cooked hash browns). Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

It's a great local place for typical diner fare. We've been here before several times, but I never really gave them a proper review. The staff is both welcoming and prompt in their service, which is always a plus in any dining establishment. I recommend their chicken fried steak, which is my standard breakfast in any diner. My wife especially loves their chicken sausage omelet with spinach, mushrooms, and avocado. Food service is quick and on point, plus they're always efficient in refills for your coffee. Try them out, and they won't disappoint, highly recommended 👌

It was my husband and my first time here, and we have nothing but amazing things to say. The hardest part was that there was so much food that sounded and looked (and smelled!) amazing. We took so much time reading through the menus, and just about everytime something new was delivered to a table, we had to go back and look at the menu to change our minds! We both work in restaurants and I know we were the kind of table that I would have been annoyed to serve, but our server Melissa was an absolute angel. She was so patient, incredibly cheerful, and gave great feedback and honest opinions on the everything we asked about. All while stopping at the table next to us about every 2 minutes to handle some new fabricated complaint from them (not liking the food, "slow" service, "unattentive server", "the table is glittery"). They were a little distracting, and I felt so bad that our server was giving them incredible service they didn't appreciate. For us, we were amazed at how fast everything seemed to come out of the kitchen when we watched others order, and our own food too (but not rushed, we had time to finish the shared appetizer before entrees came). Everything we had was great. Seasoned well, cooked the way we requested, no disappointment. We don't live in the area, so we aren't sure when we will be back, but we definitely will be. Also, because we weren't sure when we'd be back, and they had so many things we wanted to try, we ended up taking a few things ordered to go (a biscuit, and a couple desserts). My recommendation: don't skip the pie! They make them daily in house and you can feel the love!

TLDR: great food, great service, get the pie! You...

A Buttercup Breakfast to Remember in Vallejo!

I finally made it into Buttercup Diner in Vallejo for breakfast this morning after countless Uber Eats orders, and let me tell you—this was the way to experience it. While I’ve always enjoyed their food delivered, there’s something about stepping into the cozy, welcoming atmosphere that just makes everything taste that much better.

From the moment I walked in, the service was top-notch. The host greeted me with a warm smile, and the wait staff was incredibly friendly and attentive—no rushed orders, no forgotten requests, just good old-fashioned hospitality. They nailed every detail of my order, and my food came out fresh, hot, and lightning-fast.

Now, I’ve tried other breakfast spots in the area—yes, I’m looking at you, Black Bear Diner and Good Day Café—but Buttercup really takes the crown. The menu has that perfect mix of classic comfort food and unique twists, without feeling like an overpriced tourist trap (looking at you, some Napa spots). Plus, the quality here just feels more consistent.

And here’s a fun tidbit: apparently, the Vallejo location has the highest ratings among all the Buttercup Diners, and the staff knows it! My waitress beamed with pride when mentioning it, and honestly? It’s well deserved. You can tell they put extra care into making sure every customer leaves happy.

If you're looking for a solid breakfast spot that does everything right—great food, excellent service, and a welcoming vibe—skip the usual chains and head straight to Buttercup Vallejo. You...
