Zen House Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Valley

I order here for pickup often. So often to where the owner knows my usual order and notices when I order something new. The food is great and cheap.

I recently stopped coming as often because there is a new older woman is at the register is a bit rude. Well today was the day I almost lost it. I ordered over the phone for 2 lunches which comes with a soup. I forgot to order one of soups. So I came and paid even tipped (like usual). When I got my order I told her I forgot to put the order for the other soup.

She goes on saying, "you need to put the order in for the soup, if you dont that means you dont want the soup." Which is understandable. I apologized and acknowledged I was in the wrong. I would have even been fine if she told me it was too late to put it in. But when she repeated it 3 times as if she was fussing at me, I started to get mad. Then she went and got it and continued to fuss about me not putting it in after I politely told her I understood. After 3 more times of her saying the same thing. I finally just told her not to worry about it. I didnt want it anymore. Then she was like no you can get it. By this time i just wanted the food I paid for and to leave. I don't even like Chinese food y'all, it's my boyfriend's favorite and so I decided to give him a special treat on our travels. We stopped here and I fully expected to not enjoy it BUT this was the best Chinese food I've ever had. I 100% enjoyed every bite. The spring rolls were perfect, the sweet &sour chicken was banging!! The service was great and fast. The fortune cookie was an actual fortune and not some lame cliche. The best part was at the end, I fully expected to pay $50 for such exceptional food and service but instead the total was less than $30!!! If you just happen to be driving by this area - stop here for lunch or dinner!!!

PS and we got a wall scroll as a free gift!!!

Edit - today is 08/19/25 and we drove all the way back to Alabama from Roanoke VA just to have dinner at this restaurant. It was still just as amazing as we remembered it from this past December. And still less than $30 including the 22% tip. I will absolutely be...

Normally pretty good! Fast good and hot food! service isn’t great but I always get takeout the last few years. Lunch is only 6 bucks for an Entree’, rice or noodles, crab Rangoon, egg roll , soup and soup crackers. If you like spicy stuff you have to try the Mala chicken or mala shrimp! It’s so so so good! 😍 I dip my egg roll,rice,and crab Rangoon in the mala sauce as well. It’s that delicious 😋! There newest front register employee sucks though! I’d rather deal with the owner although she is not a bucket of sunshine all the time either but the new lady is awful and rude without even trying! She used to work at China Moon and I (as well as lots of other people) started going to zen house to avoid her and for better food and prices and somehow she is now hired at zen house unfortunately which makes me not go as much.
