I have been a loyal customer off and on for about 7 years. I actually stayed down the street from this place about 5 years ago at the sober living home and it was hands down my favorite place to go I have never had a bad experience there .
Last night my wife and 3 kids wanted some good Chinese food and of course we came here food was great per usual of course the place could use some updating but I always figured that added character to these good places as long as they keep clean I could care less. Food came out quick hot ready and fresh. As weāre finishing up i started organizing the plates and mess that was made this is something I was raised to do at any restaurant we went to as a kid and is something i teach my kids . This outing was my wifeās treat after she paid the main lady whom usually at the cash register and serves food made a comment to my wife āI didnāt charge you tipā My first thought was she wasnāt wanting a tip mind you I believe in tipping for good service and it was pretty good but again I didnāt pay my wife did now my wife doesnāt usually tip. So the lady said again I didnāt charge for tip and thatās when I realized what she was getting to . She was asking for a tip since my wife didnāt with confusion and frustration I asked my wife ohh you didnāt tip . The lady then began to say āwe work for tip you know ā my wife was handed her receipt to tip after rudely being asked for one . Now this rubbed me the wrong way I then went back in and said weāre are not obligated to tip . and that it wasnāt nice to ask for one she then began to explain to the best of her ability that itās what they work for and I quickly said Iāve been coming here for 7 years Iāve always tipped weather itās take out or dine in. and even so I think it was rude to peer pressure your customers with an attitude about a tip . This was at 7:51 9/16 right before they closed . and there was one other family there you would think that the one time you donāt tip it wouldnāt be a big deal but again I do believe if your able to go out and buy food you should be able to tip if the service good and the food is good which it was BUT you should never be asked for one like that. This will be my last time going there unfortunately i take pride in what restaurants do and i appreciate the work they do but never have I had this happen before . Iām sure she will remember me when she reads this Im 7 years sober with face tattoos and a big family thank you for the great food over the years...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe read tons of positive reviews, and we have been trying to find a good Chinese place in Vancouver. Tough right? But this place had been listed as the Clark county best a couple years ago, so why not.
My first thought as we pulled up was concerning as the building looks run down. Inside wasn't much better as they have added wiring for cameras and lights that are stapled to the wall or ceiling. But, I wanted to keep an open mind. We were already there.
The menu had a decent selection and the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I got the family feast for two. When we said which appetizer we wanted the waiter let us know that the feast comes with all appetizers listed. Pleasant surprise.... ok!
We started noticing people's plates coming out with food piled high on them and I was starting to get concerned of how much food we were going to get. When the appetizer showed up, there was enough for a meal for both of us. The meal was even more! Two large plates piled high with the entree, and another full plate with rice. I did order for two.... right?
The food was pretty good. It wasn't the best Chinese that I've tasted, but good. There was a lot of it though. The staff was very nice, and the food came out pretty quick.
So in the end, don't judge a book by it's cover. Looks run down, but the food is good, plenty of it at a great price. If they could spruce the place up, they would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy dad really likes this place so I often come here with him when I'm in the 'Couve. It's really quite good standard American-style Chinese food. Very flavorful, with just the right level of spice. I usually get General Tso's chicken (yeah, I'm that basic) which has a perfect level of kick (a lot of times General Tso's is just sweet, with no heat). My dad usually gets Chop Suey, which a lot of Chinese places don't even have on the menu anymore. Our meals here are always satisfying. Oh, and usually I can't even eat the egg-flower soup at most Chinese places, it's just gooey and oleaginous and gross. Here, I like it. It actually tastes chicken-y.
The service can be a bit slow sometimes, but the staff is always friendly and efficient, and they keep your water and tea topped up. We usually go for lunch (they have nice lunch specials) but we were recently there for dinner and it was pretty packed, so clearly a neighborhood favorite.
As far as atmosphere, they're not the newest or fanciest, but don't let that turn you off. Everything that needs to be clean and functional is clean and functional, what else do you want?
Their prices have increased a slight bit (like everyone) but their portion sizes are good so I'd say they're still very affordable.
Overall a very solid place to get decent, old-fashioned American-style Chinese food....
