We tried out Jim's Pizza Box this past weekend while on vacation with family. We stay in Vermilion every summer, and frequent the area during the rest of the year. We saw that it was new in the area and since we have a lot of family in every summer we like to try out some new and different places. I have Celiac Disease and we called ahead to ask about a gluten free menu as we noticed that the other locations have a gluten free pizza. We were told that they do have a gluten free pizza and would be able to accommodate. Typically I am okay with getting a plain salad (minus croutons, etc.) as well. Upon arriving it was pretty busy and super loud. Patty (manager) came by to help seat us. I asked her about the gluten free pizza and if there was a separate menu and a few other questions. Instead of coming around our large table of 6, she was trying to speak (almost yell) across the table. Since it was so loud I could hardly hear her, and she did say that it was listed in the menu. Both my husband and I could not find anything stating "gluten free" on the menu. When the waitress came by she was unsure about it as well, and I opted to go with just a salad, without croutons, olives, and onion and I specifically told her "gluten free" which we were told they could do. When our drinks came out, she could not remember what drinks she had...two of us had Sprite and one had Club Soda. We had to taste test to figure it out. After all of these slip-ups there was no way that I would take a chance on a gluten free pizza. Our food took a long time to come out, and some of our party didn't even get their appetizers or salads until asking multiple times for them. The restaurant really emptied out at this point, so the appetizers should have come out. Our server (Tori) was great, but there seemed to be a lot of servers all over the place and the communication between the front of the house and back of the house seemed very chaotic. The kitchen was also very loud and we had a hard time even having a conversation with each other at the table. After almost an hour my salad came out, and had a large dinner roll placed on top. Anyone with Celiac knows that this contamination can cause serious sickness. Due to all of the issues I told Patty that I didn't even want it re-made, as I was concerned with them just removing the roll in the back and bringing the same salad back. She told me that "she would take it off the bill" as if she was doing me a favor. I did order just a side of cottage cheese as I needed to eat something and that was the only thing some what safe. If you are going to offer gluten free options, tell customers that it is on the menu, and that you can accommodate a simple salad without gluten, you should not be having these issues. The place was super cute, but I think they need to spend a little less on interior decorating and more time on training the staff, and making sure that what you tell customers is true. Due to all of this, we will...
Read moreWe ordered delivery. The first thing I will say is the poor employee taking my order had no training at all. He couldn’t even tell me how many slices are in a large pizza. It’s unfortunate that he wasn’t better trained before opening the restaurant to the public. I don’t mind that it took a little longer for the order, I just felt bad for the employee. I’ve been in his shoes, and I know it can be overwhelming to be thrown into a situation and not be prepared for it. I paid with credit card over the phone and was told I could put a tip on the receipt, but when the driver got here he had no credit card receipt and didn’t realize I had already paid. Luckily I had just enough cash for a tip. I would’ve felt bad if the driver had to miss out on a tip because he didn’t have the receipt. Then I got worried they didn’t run my credit card, so I had to call back and make sure my food was actually paid for. I’m sure these are issues that will get smoothed out, so it definitely doesn’t make or break our decision to order again. And the food was delivered in the time they told me it would take, so that was nice. On to the food...it was good! It was all hot and fresh. The garlic cheese bread was delicious! I really like that the sauce with the bread came warm, unlike a lot of other places that just throw in cold sauce. The pizza was good. I can’t say it was the best pizza I ever had, but it was good. We only ordered a plain pepperoni pizza, so I am looking forward to trying out the taco pizza and other items on the menu soon. Aside from the minor issues that I believe only happened because they just opened, it was a good experience and we will be ordering again next time we decide to have a...
Read moreLet me just say first that I have been at Jims in Milan and Huron. Love the food. I was so excited for the Vermilion restaurant to open, especially since we only live about a block away. This past Friday night my son and I ordered a pizza at 6pm. I told them I would pick it up. The person on the phone told me it would be 30-45 mins (which we did expect a wait since it was the first weekend of being open.) We arrived at 635 and my son went inside. He paid for the pizza and was told it would be ready shortly. After about 15 mins, he asked an employee if they could see if our pizza was ready. No one came back. He asked several other employees, but no one ever came back with any information. Finally at 730 he asked a manager (he believed) to check on the pizza and if it's not done, he wanted the money back and he would leave. The manager told him he would check to see what was going on. 5 mins later, he came out with a pizza and handed it to my son. My son was very upset with the whole situation especially having to wait an hour inside and no one getting back with him and his questions. Nothing was done to ease the situation. I'm not saying to give the money back but Maybe a coupon for next time? I just wish the person on the phone would have told me that it was going to be at least an hour wait, then I could have decided whether to wait or go somewhere else. So basically, we waited an hour and 35 mins for a pizza WE were picking up! All that and the pizza was barely warm. Very...
