We're new to Chicago, and stopped into to El Poblanito with no prior knowledge of its menu. In general, we prioritize good authentic ethnic food over ambiance or trendy decor. We were impressed with the friendly service and most of all, the amazing food. The 'gourmet taco' marketing doesn't do this place justice because everything they brought to us was out of this world good. We ordered the burrito burria with a side of 'burria juice' and the skirt steak. Both came piping hot to our table, and we devoured it, exchanging knowing looks between exclamations of 'holy crap, this is really good!' We lucked into finding the best Mexican food we've eaten in a very long time. Maybe ever. The burria juice is consomme, and it was DIVINE. We dipped everything in it, and it made everything better, even the homemade chips. Speaking of chips, the waitress gave us two squeeze bottles of salsa, one green and one red. I squirted the red one on almost everything, including the skirt steak and lettuce/tomato and wrapped it in the corn tortillas that came with the meal. The skirt steak was great by itself but better in a corn tortilla wrap with a squirt of red (hot) salsa or green (mild) salsa. WOW. Are all the Mexican restaurants in...
Read moreThis past February was the very first time my family and some friends who were visiting from Indiana tried this place and were very pleased.
I spoke with one of the employees and they mentioned that they've only been around for maybe a year as I remember hearing. Said that the owner wanted the venue to be a Mexican fusion restaurant along with pizza.
I thought that was a great idea and intended to try a regular ol' pizza to compare with other pizzas I've had in the past but after chatting with our friends, they wanted to try Mexican style pizza along with some gourmet tacos.
Both the pizza and the tacos were fantastic, friendly service, clean dining area and the prices seemed reasonable enough. I'd most definitely come back here.
Before we pulled in, we drove past No Manches in which my wife's lady friend was eyeballing it and was thinking "oh boy, not the place I'm taking us". She does love to drink but not this time.
Don't know if El Poblanito has their liquor license yet but I read that they welcome patrons to bring their own beer or wine which is a nice option.
Don't know if this venue is a chain or local but either way I wish for continued success & prosperity for...
Read moreHubby was craving pizza and I found this local spot that opened up a couple months ago. We ordered their thin crust pepperoni and it was good. Crust had a little crisp, and the sauce was perfect (not too sweet like other joints). The pizza was well balanced in flavor and texture. If you like true thin crust, this place is for you!
While having our pizza, my husband noticed the table nearby had tacos and we thought, do they sell tacos here too? We ended up trying a steak taco and it was AMAZING. We talked about how difficult it has been to find good authenthic tacos ever since moving from the city, and this restaurant is no joke. The steak meat was juicy, flavorful, and plentiful. Absolutely devine.
My go-to taco is al pastor, which I would argue a lot of places do not do well. This restaurant, however, does amazing al pastor. Similar to the steak, the al pastor was cut into thick juicy pieces with tons of flavor. I cannot say this enough - if you like good authenthic tacos, you need to try this place! Seriously, do not pass it up!
On one last note, the owners are so friendly and hospitable. We are happy to support a small business delivering amazing quality and...
