A Spicy Fiesta of Flavors at El Tapatio
Welcome to El Tapatio, where the scorching sun of Mexico meets the sizzling sensations of culinary delight. This hidden gem of a Mexican restaurant has left me bewitched and craving for more. As a connoisseur of tales that evoke fear and fascination, I have found a new narrative unfolding within the walls of El Tapatio—an epicurean tale that tickles the taste buds and sets the senses ablaze.
Let us embark upon this gastronomic journey, where each sip and bite takes us deeper into the heart of Mexico. The sweet tea, oh, how it sings a harmonious melody upon the palate! It arrives with a refreshing vivacity, as if brewed from the dewdrops of morning sunshine. Its sweetness is understated, leaving room for the natural flavors to dance upon the taste buds. A truly delightful quench for the parched soul.
But wait, the symphony continues! Behold, the crispy corn chips, as if forged in the fires of culinary perfection. Each bite reveals a resounding crunch, a testament to the chef's dedication to achieving the pinnacle of chip craftsmanship. And the seasoning, a masterstroke of balance, with just the right amount of salt to elevate the flavors without overpowering them. These chips, my friends, are the stuff of legends.
Now, let us delve into the realm of salsa—a kingdom of vibrant spices and tantalizing textures. El Tapatio's salsa, a concoction that ignites the senses, boasts a medley of flavors that dance upon the tongue. Its consistency, like a finely woven tapestry, strikes a perfect balance between chunky and smooth, allowing for a seamless journey from bowl to chip. With every dip, a burst of tangy tomatoes and aromatic herbs electrifies the taste buds, setting the stage for the grand finale.
And what a finale it is! The fajita quesadilla, a harmonious union of sizzling fajitas and melty cheese, tells a tale of culinary mastery. The tender strips of marinated meat, seared to perfection, intermingle with the gooey cheese, creating a symphony of flavors that evokes both satisfaction and yearning. Each bite is a revelation, a revelation that El Tapatio is a place where culinary dreams come true.
In conclusion, El Tapatio is a Mexican haven that captivates both the adventurous food explorer and the connoisseur of fine flavors. From the bewitching sweet tea to the divine fajita quesadilla, every element conspires to weave a tale of culinary enchantment. So, my dear reader, venture forth and partake in this spicy fiesta—let El Tapatio cast its spell upon you, for it is a tale worth...
Read moreMy wife and I have been traveling across the US the past few years and often look to Mexican restaurants for lunch or dinner. We have learned the quality while typically mid grade, is consistent. We have also found a few rise Mexican Restaurants that rise above the rest because the food is exceptional. On our trip through bourbon country, El Tapatio in Varsailles (just south of Frankfort) joined our list of top Mexican Restaurants. Why, it was simple, the food was both unique and exceptional.
There were no microwaved beans and rice, the refried beans were fresh and creamy, the rice warm and fresh and the plate cool to the touch.
My fajita was unique with shrimp, steak, chicken, and a flavorful pork sausage. The vegetables were fresh and well cooked with the cast iron was super hot.
The kicker was the entire pan was covered with a very sweet and savory melted cheese.
My wife had enchiladas, again the the gooey cheese was wonderful, the rice fresh, and the plate as cool as the other side of the pillow.
The only slight disappointment was the chips and salsa. Chips were good but not great, the salsa fresh but without the depth of flavor we enjoy.
Bottom-line, we will go to El Tapatio anytime we're in...

The service there was Awesome, the young lady was very nice, and kept my water glass filled (love not having to ask for more water).
It has your typical Hispanic restaurant vibes, however they did have nice long horn skulls hanging up!
The food was great, my whole family enjoyed all their dishes! They have a green habanero hot sauce that complimented my taco salad perfectly!
If you are in Versailles stop in at El Tapatio if you are in the mood for...
