Mama Coco Vestavia — Restaurant in Vestavia Hills

Upon entering the establishment, I was hit with a sense of Mexico. The environment was absolutely stunning. We were lead to our table through a gallery-walk full of pieces inspired by the revered Disney movie, "Coco." The paintings seemed slightly off, but I think that the slight deformities were due to copyright restrictions. Diving into the food aspect of the dining experience, the salsa was alright, but the chips were pretty good. Thank goodness the chips were served warm for us to enjoy on a chilly November evening. According to my friend, who instantly devoured the guacamole, it was quite exquisite. Then, we ordered the main course. I ordered the chicken quesadilla since I'm a basic b*tch. My other three friends ordered chicken fajitas, chicken quesadillas, and tacos. They loved the food, and had a big smile the whole time! I thought the food was ok, but that's probably because I committed an actual hate crime on Mexican culture by combining my beans and rice with the quesadilla, and eating it from top to bottom instead of side to side. This place was outstanding. Nice open atmosphere not one of those dark, creepy places. Our server (Lino) was really very good, very helpful and on top of things. We started off with their cheese dip, which was white cheese, which I prefer. It was very good. Their salsa is also extremely good and a little on the spicy side. Then, I had the combination fajitas. This was a massive dish with enough food for at least four people I thought. It featured a skewer with huge shrimp, a thin ribeye, chicken, and Carrizo sausage. The wife had a chicken dish with shrimp. The food tasted fresh, not greasy tasting like you get sometimes. I also tried one of their specialty margaritas, and it was great. After eating and having given server cash, needing change, they went off to pay our bills. Came back and first words out of their mouth was we can’t take cash (?) and when told what if that’s all we have. The server gave attitude to the ladies and said - oh now you want to be confrontational. Didn’t say that to me, the only male, but confronted them. Poor training. Later in the day calls were made. One said no manager there and conversation from a different customer - they spoke yo a manager. Who do you trust. Food was ok. But were rushed out with plates being taken away while others ...
