This was our first visit to Frances Marie's. My husband had some tests done at the hospital that required fasting. When we finished at 2:15 pm, we headed straight across the street to have lunch. There were only 2 other tables of customers at that late time, so it wasn't busy. We were seated and our server, Pumpkin, took our drink order. I ordered lime with my water and they waitress brought a bowl full of lemon slices. My husband ordered water with small amount of ice and she brought just the right mixture to suit him. Our waitress was attentive without being bothersome and brought limes when I asked for them the second time. We ordered carne guisada with corn tortillas and chicken enchiladas. The chips and salsa were okay, but definitely not the best in town and the chips were not warm. Both plates were delivered with spanish rice and our preferred choice of charro beans. The rice was a great texture - light and separated grains, not mushy or gummy. The beans were piping hot and perfectly seasoned. The enchiladas were nothing special and were not hot enough. I wouldn't order them again. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the carne guisada! I tore off a piece of his tortilla to try and found it delicious. The restaurant was clean and had a great feeling of spaciousness with great decor. Another thing we noticed and appreciated was the good quality flatware they used - much better quality than most restaurants use. Overall, our experience was good and we...

Try and find the entrance.....it's around the side of the building. The double doors along the frontage are for emergency exiting only and the double doors in the back where you park are to the "event" space and give you the false idea of being the entrance. Handicap parking is on the opposite side of the building from the entrance. So good luck if you have a disability. Not to mention the ramp to the entrance is tricky, it is sloped in two directions. Hope you don't break a hip!
Bland food and no flavor or heat. The tacos are not tacos, more like mini taco salads and are difficult to eat at best and crumble in your hands when you take a bite. The enchiladas are soaking in grease.
The wait staff stand around in groups "hanging out" with their hands in there pockets. Slow service is typical. You have to flag down your waiter/waitress just to get a refill.
Management obviously has no clue how to run FOH. BOH has no clue how to cook!
Sad because the owner spent so much money on this place and it's a failure. It wants to look like a 5-star restaurant, but the food is -5 stars.
The place looks closed and the vinyl signs outside stating "open" along with the neon "open" are a separate attempt to attract patrons to a complete disaster of a restaurant. It won't be long before various other "come hither" signs adorn the facade.
If you like slow service and bland Tex-Mex, this...
Read moreMy wife, mother & I went to Frances Marie's for the first time after church today . We were seated right away and our server ( Annie ) was very attentive, patient, informative and very friendly!! (One of the best we have had in a while) Our food came fairly quick! My wife had the street tacos with beef fajitas. My mother had the brisket enchiladas. I had the Deluxe plate. We were all very impressed with the food portions, temperature and the flavor of the food (which was excellent). My wife and I take my mother out to eat after Mass on Sundays and I always offer to let her take my leftovers home and the answer has always been "no, no". This is the first time she said "Yes" and without hesitation! The manager and staff made sure that our dining experience was good! One of the few places in town I felt appreciated as a customer!! I've lived here in Victoria all my life and have eaten at every Mexican food place here and many around here in South Texas. I have to honestly have to say that this is one of the best! We will definitely be a...
