I am almost 60 years old yet I have never tried Cask Ale before, "warm" beer I thought was sacrilegious! But I finally decided to break my tradition of gassy cold beer and visit Ambleside Pub because their beer selection advertising sounded very appealing as did the positive reviews so off I went on Saturday 12/07/24, nervously i'll admit afterall no one likes to spend money on a bad experience, right? Folks let me tell you I am so happy I did! After just 1 visit (on my own) it is now my favorite bar even though there are no wings or nachos. Cask ale instantly won me over and no it's NOT warm beer, it's cool beer how about that. I felt like I was tasting beer for the very first time it was very flavorful in a very good way and there's a good variety to choose from. No unnecessary gas just what's naturally needed for the process. I felt like I could actually drink more of the beer and get less full and more importantly the regular strength beer felt as strong as a higher abv from american taps if that makes any sense. Put it this way the beer went down smooth! I am now sold on cellar temperature beer and guess what, I experienced no after effect the next morning, incredible! Regarding the food, everything I ordered was wonderful the fish and chips was amazing as was the scotch egg and meat mushroom pie. Regarding the atmosphere and service, one word, phenomenal! I was a complete stranger who was instantly treated like family, thank you for that great hospitality. Steve and Jimmy were super informative, gracious and helpful since I was a first timer and the owner even chimed in with a nice greeting and appreciation for his new customer. It instantly became my favorite bar and I can't wait for the return trip to try out the other exciting meal options. I will be making my reservations for the sunday roast very soon. Of course, when I'm craving nachos and wings I will go to my other regular bars but when I want something super unique, super friendly and super special, you will find me at the Ambleside Pub. Do yourself a favor and go there, I am more than happy I did.
UPDATE:
I am back again with my second review for the Ambleside Pub. This review is specifically about their famous Sunday roast which I feel deserves its own review separate from my initial main experience review from 12/07/24. I finally got around to booking myself for their Sunday roast which took place on 12/29/24 and I'm glad to report back that the experience was just as spectacular as from their main menu options. I almost picked the lamb option but instead went with the prime roast beef and it was super tender and paired very well with their flavorful gravy (spoiler alert, looking forward to lamb on my return visit). Their cauliflower cheese dish is hands down the best "mac and cheese" style dish I have ever had in my life. It's not actual macaroni it's a creamy cauliflower cheese dish that was super flavorful, my favorite part of an already great roast. I went with their sticky toffee pudding desert with vanilla ice cream and that combination worked perfectly, amazing flavors and texture. The entire roast combination of vegetables, yorkshire pudding, potatoes, cheese dish and steak was well thought out and served perfectly. The money value of their sunday roast was truly appreciated in this current economy. This place continues to tremendously impress me they are not just meeting my expectations they are exceeding them! A quick update on my experience with their cask ale. It has now surpassed regular tap beer as my preferred beer. The more I continue to enjoy their cask ale, the more difficult it has becomes for me to drink regular tap beer from other bars. I highly recommend trying all of their cask ales but one of my favorites is the Spinners Stout, it has an amazing flavor profile. Go there for the cask ale. Go there for the regular menu. Go there for the sunday roast. Go there for the friendly staff and great service. Go there for the ambience. Simply put... GO THERE! They have earned...
Read moreWe were a group of ten last night, and other people we knew filtered in through the evening, just like a good pub. They are aiming for a traditional pub vibe and have got most things right. The bar service was quick, despite hordes of patrons. They did a great job clearing empty glasses off the table. Staff were friendly and everyone was in a good mood, despite what I'm sure was a lot of behind the scenes action. We felt very comfortable and will definitely be back. Love that they will be showing football matched throughout the day on Saturday, not sure about other days. Background music was excellent, just right. Staff were great. Food was traditional pub fare and everyone liked what they ordered. Would LOVE to see a couple of Pub Quiz nights each week, at least one a week for sure. Maybe some live music on occasion, though I really liked that we were able to hear each other and talk. Maybe just a guy with a guitar, similar to DeCiccos in Somers. A few suggestions: Put two comfy sofas with a low table between, H shape, right in front of the fireplace by front door. Bring in some other comfy stools and small pub tables to scatter around the rest of the space, especially in back. Create another cozy nook or two, maybe wall benches. Put a W and M on the bathroom doors, haha. Bathroom door latches in ladies were a bit difficult to shut properly. Need More Hula Hoops please! Could probably do with a little more color somewhere, perhaps a stained glass imported pub window up on a wall for interest. We all give it a big thumbs up and I imagine it will be a regular watering hole for a...
Read moreJust a delightful English-style pub experience in an unexpected place. Reminiscent of the prototypical such pub, though more spacious and, except for the wide pillars, more of an open plan approach. Plenty of seating everywhere and loads of televisions typically st to watching EPL football. And one heck of a kitchen!
The bar itself is fairly small, but boasts up to four cask beers, from Old Glenham, a local brewery specializing in cask. The Bitter and the ESB are regularly up, with two rotating selections also available. At $10 they aren't cheap, but this is Mt Kisco. There are other keg beers and Guinness in case cask is not your thing.
The kitchen serves up an astounding fish (cod) and chips, with a varied pie selection. I passed on a chicken and mushroom pie, and instead greatly enjoyed the Steak and Ale pie. If you're early enough, they even offer a full English breakfast to cripple you for the rest of the day.
The owner and his staff could not have been nicer, even in the face of his beloved Leeds being overmatched by Arsenal this particular Saturday. Loads of people stopped in during our stay, many of whom knew the owner and staff, as this is a local pub through and through. But it's right next to the Metro North station, for easy revisits for the out of town...
